A 1968 Ford ICON Bronco is up for auction with Mecum Auctions. If you're a fan of the original Bronco, check out the version with unique ICON build specifications. From its distinctive exterior to a renovated interior, not to mention numerous modern upgrades, there's a lot to like about this Ford Bronco.

Ford Bronco: a long history

In its previous life, the Ford Bronco SUV was produced between 1965 and 1996. While the first generation was compact, subsequent generations were full-size SUVs. First generation Broncos (1966-1977) featured a unique chassis with a 92-inch wheelbase and were ultimately available in a station wagon, pickup, and roadster body styles. Engines range from a 2.8-liter straight-6 with 105 horsepower up to a 4.9-liter Windsor V8.

What makes the 1968 Ford Bronco unique?

This 1968 Ford ICON Bronco has a 5.0-liter Coyote V8 engine with a respectable 412 horsepower. ICON build specifications help set it apart from other 1968 Ford Broncos. A classic exterior

In keeping with ICON's pledge to blend classic styling with modern performance and utility, this 1968 Ford Bronco has plenty of exterior upgrades. For starters, its vintage body has been fully restored. LED fog and reverse lights add plenty of function and character. There are black powder coated bumpers and Hutchinson Beadlock wheels with BF Goodrich All Terrain Radial tires. A ranger trim in Volcanic Black rounds out the Bronco's classic exterior styling.

An interior with modern upgrades

The interior of this Ford Bronco has been kept largely intact, although it boasts several modern upgrades. For starters, the SUV has satellite radio capability. It's also outfitted with an iPod interface. Bucket seats keep the ride cushy and comfortable. The Bronco comes with a removable tuck and tumble two-passenger seat.

How about performance?

The standard Ford Bronco came with a three-speed manual and automatic transmissions. This model has a four-speed automatic transmission along with a sport suspension package and a sport brake package. It's also outfitted with aluminum CNC sport pedals along with ARB front and rear locking differentials. A ceramic coated exhaust completes the look.

What about the cost?

Several 1968 Ford Broncos are listed for sale on ClassicCars.com. As with any other vehicle, prices vary based on the overall condition of the SUV, its mileage, features and more. On this page, prices range from $25,000 up to $125,000 and more. On the other hand, HIConsumption lists a 1968 ICON Bronco with a price tag of roughly $200,000.

The Bronco makes a comeback

The beloved Bronco is making a comeback. After an extended absence, the 4x4 will make its way to dealerships in 2020. While details are scarce, Ford says that the latest Bronco will come with the latest smart technology. In terms of appearance, the SUV will sport a "bold new look while remaining true to its rugged roots."
