A Ranger that wishes to range out wide

Ford’s Ranger might be the blue oval brand’s smallest truck, but that does not mean it will limit your adventure. With the Ranger having relaunched Stateside, American truck customers are discovering that this compact truck can be every bit as capable if correctly configured. To show just how adventure-ready its Ranger is, Ford commissioned a special build for the 2019 SEMA show.

No need for AirB&B

To build this adventure Ranger, Ford got Hellwing products involved. Hellwing specializes in the construction and completion of off-road adventure trucks. They build the caliber of vehicles in which you want to take a sabbatical. The desire was to use the Ranger’s T6 platform and show exactly how much additional carrying capability it has. A great deal of this truck’s appeal is in its equipped load box and tailgate area, which hosts a selection of innovative carrying and storage solutions.

Field kitchen for that post mtb ride snack

Hellwig wishes to use the Ranger's load box as best possible. A swivel bike rack, which holds two Specialized Levo e-mountain bikes, makes way for the Bedliner trays and you can pull an entire food preparation area from the Hellwig Ranger's rear! The pop-up field kitchen, which is set on a sturdy rail structure, is powered by a GoalZero Yeti 1400 battery and solar station. Outstanding workmanship ensures that there are no rattles within the rack or tray system, even after miles of hardcore off-road driving.

It cooks with gas - naturally

To assist in its outdoor food fuelling ability, the Hellwig Ranger features a clever gas-stove and refrigerator combination. Also mounted on the sturdy racking structure that makes-up most of the Hellwig Ranger’s rear end, it gives you the option of not having to fire-up a traditional wood fire in the wild, with the implied risk that could have.

Equipped to go anywhere

Assisting the Hellwig Ranger rig to get to those remote destinations, is an upgraded suspension system. Sourced from Icon vehicle dynamics, the improved suspension kit tallies a reservoir damper system, better coil springs, and new links. As a combination, this trick suspension kit gives the Hellwig Ranger 3.5-inches of additional ride height and obstacle-clearing lift. It also adds 35% wheel travel to the front wheels, which allows it to greatly scale rough terrain when required.

Not forgetting the streaming media element

Sound quality might not be that much of a priority for most adventure trucking enthusiasts, but Hellwig thought it would be a good idea to upgrade the Ranger’s sound system – just in case. Using the best speakers and control unit electronics, from Rockford-Fosgate, this Hellwig Ranger can deliver an impromptu concert of your favourite tunes, even if you are in the middle of nowhere.

A considered and complete off-road design

Beyond the Yakima bed racking system and Tepui Hybox tent, the Hellwig Ranger is instantly recognizable due to its flared fenders and a custom grille. Those elaborate fenders are necessary, to accommodate the larger tires. Bushwacker supplied fender extensions and 35-inch Falken Wildpeak M/T's tires wrapped around Icon 17-inch rims. Both the front and rear bumpers are custom off-road items, which give more clearance and come equipped with additional LEDs, to light the way when you are adventuring far away from civilization.
