Hard-Working '87 Ford LTL 9000 Big Rig Has Many Miles to Go
With nearly a million miles on the clock and 22 years in service, this Ford big rig is certainly one cool hauler.
Blue Oval Big Rig
We cover the full spectrum of Ford trucks here at FTE, but one thing you rarely see are Blue Oval big rigs. So we were particularly intrigued to come across this very cool 1987 LTL 9000 up for grabs over at Mecum Auctions recently. After 22 years in service as a milk tanker hauler, this giant Ford is seeking a new owner, and it's certainly way too cool to ignore.

Relatively Fresh
The awesome Ford has some even more astounding stats behind it as well. Currently, the big rig has 865,000 miles on the clock, though the 400 Cummins diesel was rebuilt 45,000 miles ago. Similarly, the transmission has just 20,000 miles on it following a complete rebuilt. So this LTL is good to go for many more years, mechanically speaking.

Sleeper Equipped
You won't mind spending days at a time out on the road, either. Inside the cabin of this big rig, there's a 60-inch sleeper so you can catch a nap at one of our nation's many rest/truck stops along your journey. And that's always a nice feature to have when you're on the road for great distances.

Good to Go
Under the hood, you'll find a new radiator to go along with the refreshed oil burner. The 18-speed transmission also packs a new clutch, so the truck should be mechanically sorted for many years to come. But that's to be expected with one of these behemoths.

Classic Hauler
Aside from looking downright cool, the big Ford touts a 285-inch wheel base, 11R22.5 front tires, and 3.55 rear tires. With a healthy amount of chrome trim, giant dual stacks, and a big old cow catcher up front, it definitely looks the part of a classic cross-country hauler.

Passing It On
Unfortunately, the seller recently suffered a stroke and has to pass on his trusty truck to someone else. Personally, we'd love to have this thing even if we weren't going to use it to haul goods across this great country of ours. Mainly because it's just too cool to let it rot away sitting in some field!
