Gateway 1972 Bronco Restomod Built with Eye for Detail

Gateway Bronco has built quite the reputation for its stellar builds over the years, and this '72 certainly doesn't sway from that.

No Exception

We've featured quite a few Gateway Bronco builds over the years, and for good reason. The masterful craftsmen behind this aftermarket outfitter build some of the most highly detailed, amazing restomods you'll ever have the pleasure of fixating your eyeballs on. And this gorgeous '72 Bronco that we spotted over at Mecum Auctions is certainly no exception to that rule.

Bare Bones

As usual, Gateway began this build by stripping the Bronco down to its bare frame. From there, they powder-coated the frame itself and added Raptor liner to the undersides of the Bronco to keep the elements out. They then stripped the entire body down to the bare metal, massaged it until it was straight as an arrow, and covered it in multiple coats of gorgeous Candy Apple Red paint.

Adding Flair

Though Gateway likes to retain many of the original Bronco's styling elements, they did add a few goodies to the exterior. They include new beefy black bumpers, a front winch, spare wheel/tire, and a very cool accessory rack that adds space for a gas can and cooler. Power retractable side steps are a nice touch as well that add functionality without detracting from the Bronco's looks.

Perfect Contrast

The Candy Apple Red theme continues inside and is complemented perfectly with a host of black features. That includes the ultra-comfy Porsche bucket seats, which are covered in leather and suede with red stitching. Grey wool carpet is a nice touch as well, giving this Bronco's interior another bit of depth in color.

Modern Amenities

The Bronco has been modernized in a few other ways, including the installation of a brand new Alpine stereo system. Three-point seatbelts and a roll bar protect the occupants, while a wood-grain steering wheel, tilt column, air conditioning, and power windows add a touch of modern luxury and convenience.

Beefy Combo

Pop the hood, and you'll find a beautifully detailed engine bay packing a modern Ford 5.0-liter V8. The engine sports a host of upgrades, including aluminum heads, ceramic-coated exhaust system, electronic fuel injection, and heat shielding. It's backed up by a four-speed automatic transmission, which sends power back to a beefy 9-inch Ford rear end and/or Dana front differential.

Repeatable Success

Rounding out this impressive combination are a Bilstein 2-inch aluminum body lift, front and rear sway bars, and Wilwood 4-wheel disc brakes with Hydroboost. This concept of taking an old Bronco and making it a modern cruiser is nothing new, of course. But in our humble opinion, few do it as well as Gateway Bronco. And this beautiful '72 is just another example of what these masterminds are capable of doing, over and over again.
