Fully Built Lifted '79 Bronco Packs Plenty of Power

You certainly don't need a 466 cube V8 to make a 2nd-gen Bronco cool, but it doesn't hurt, either.

More Than Most

To us, you really can't go wrong with a 2nd-gen Bronco. You can leave them completely stock, with tiny wheels and tires in place. Or you can add a lift kit and throw some big knobby rollers under there. Heck, we don't even mind which engine you stuff under the hood, so long as it's a Ford V8. But this '79 Bronco up for grabs at Mecum Auctions certainly packs more cubic inches than most.

Built to the Hilt

In this case, that powerplant is a 466 cubic-inch Ford V8 that's been built to the hilt. It's packing plenty of goodies including Edelbrock heads and intake manifold, roller rockers, a gear drive timing setup, Holley 750 carb, headers, and a Flowmaster exhaust. But that isn't the only thing this Bronco has going for it, either.

Intimidating Stance

The Bronco has just come off a full frame-off restoration, in fact, and looks like a brand new inside and out. Rolling on a massive set of Mickey Thompson wheels and tires, it also looks quite intimidating. But when you're packing a large engine under the hood, that's the way it should be.

Upgrades Galore

The auction listing doesn't specifically mention which suspension upgrades this Bronco has been treated to, but there are clearly a lot of them in the pictures provided. We can spot aftermarket springs and quad shocks, for starters, but there's much more to it than that. And this undercarriage looks clean enough to eat off of, too.

Rust Proof

The listing does mention that Grade 8 hardware replaces all of the stock nuts and bolts, which is pretty impressive. The stock gas and brake lines were also replaced with stainless steel pieces, which means they both look great and will last forever while eschewing rust.

Big Mover

On the outside, OEM fenders, doors, and tailgate were used to replace the originals. The paint, trim, and chrome all look immaculate, which is a testament to the quality of work here. And with that big engine and a 4.56-geared Detroit Locker rear end, it'll probably move pretty good for a big-bodied Bronco, too.

Do It All

You certainly won't find too many other 2nd-gen Broncos out there in the world that has received as much attention as this one. The comprehensive build is ready for anything, whether that be a muddy trail or a high-grade car show. And in our book, that makes it well worth drooling over.
