Ford Seeks to Find New Territory

Automotive sales in China were down across the board in 2018, and few American automotive brands took the hit worse than Ford. In response to their down year, Ford is working to add some much-needed punch to its Chinese product line in an attempt to boost its sales numbers in the world’s biggest automotive market. Their first strike: the 2019 Ford Territory. Ford hopes their newest mid-size crossover will be a hit with young professionals and growing families.

Urban Outfitted

Ford took special care to design its 2019 Ford Territory around the desires of their target market: drivers in China’s second-tier, yet rapidly growing metropolitan areas like Changsha, Kunming, Wuxi, and Zhengzhou. From ample passenger and cargo space to increased vehicle height for improved navigation perspective, the Ford Territory offers drivers a variety of features to better navigate densely populated roads.

Contemporary Style & Tech

The 2019 Ford Territory’s urban-centric design extends throughout the interior. Chrome and statin panel detailing and available black leather seating is utilized throughout its ergonomic driver's cockpit, adding to its sleek and stylish vibe. In step with previous editions released in Australia, the 2019 Ford Territory will also offer a bevy of navigation and entertainment options.

Advanced Voice Command Features

The latest edition of Ford Territory also offers Chinese consumers a convenient feature previously unavailable on Fords sold within the Chinese market. The SUV’s navigation and audio entertainment systems now offer Mandarin voice recognition technology that’s savvy enough to understand over a dozen varying regional dialects —an important feature given the market’s diversity of language.

First of Many New Fords to Come

Ford's new entry-level SUV is one of over forty newly designed or redesigned cars and SUVs the brand plans to offer to the Chinese market through the year 2025 —a move indicative of just how fast the market is growing.

2019 Ford Territory Powertrain

The 2019 Ford Territory's powertrain has been dubbed "no-frills" by industry insiders and was designed in lockstep with other brands already on sale in China. It's powered by a 1.5-L four-cylinder engine with 163-horsepower. US-based consumers who have a desire to drive one are out of luck, however —the vehicle will likely never be released on American roads as it was not developed to the country's stricter safety and emissions requirements.
