Ford Bronco Restomod Is Pure Subtle Excellence

The term restomod usually means big wheels and even bigger bucks. But this modernized Bronco is more about simplistic beauty.

1. The Subtle Restomod

Any time you see the term "restomod," a few specific characteristics typically come to mind. Huge, modern wheels and tires, a fuel-injected powerplant, and an interior that looks like something out of a new truck. But as this clean first-gen Bronco proves, that doesn't always have to be the case. And even though this one's headed to Mecum's Las Vegas auction, it won't cost you hundreds of thousands of dollars to purchase, either.

2. Non-Offensive Apperarances

And yet, it's not like this well-sorted 1968 Bronco is anything short of a top-notch build, either. The body retains much of its original character, with flawless Red Rose Pearl paint and bodywork. The wheels aren't stock, but they aren't huge or offensive by any means. Heck, the tires are even a reasonable size, which is rare these days. The only real alteration you'll find is the cut rear fenders, a staple on most 1st gen builds since people started building them.

3. Modern Where it Counts

The builder of this beautiful Bronco did make some modern upgrades where it's appreciated, of course. Power steering and power brakes help the 'ute handle and stop much better. Dual exhaust gives it a much more pleasant sound. And Rhino lining underneath keeps rock chips and rust at bay.

4. Comfort Upgrades

The interior of this Bronco has come a long way from the original, basic duds. A set of comfy tan bucket seats keep your tush from falling asleep on road trips, and a new steering wheel is much more pleasant to hold on to. A full set of Stewart-Warner gauges and some aluminum trim are enough to jazz things up considerably without going overboard.

5. Remember the Old 5.0?

You won't find a Coyote under the hood of this subtle ride, either. Instead, an old school 302 provides plenty of motivation with a few go-fast goodies including a Holley Street Avenger 4-barrel carburetor. The whole thing has been treated to some chrome and Ford Performance valve covers for a clean but subtle look. Just like the rest of this most excellent ride.
