Satisfaction Everywhere I Go

It’s not just pickup truck fans who are fired up about the pending debut of the Rivian R1T Pickup. In fact, the entire automotive world is sitting with bated breath awaiting the vehicle’s late 2020 premier. The first all-electric pickup truck to be mass-produced, the R1T will, for better or worse, set the bar for what consumers want from an all-electric pickup in terms of comfort, style, and most of all power.

Give 'Em Back the Glare

Backed by titans of industry Ford and Amazon, the Rivian R1T will debut with a sibling vehicle, the R1S sport utility vehicle. The vehicles are slated to be manufactured at a plant located in Normal, Illinois. But unlike the generic name of the city of their birth, these vehicles will be anything but ordinary. From their futuristic look to their wide variety of new technologies, the release of the R1T and R1S marks a whole new territory in American automotive utility.

It has the go to match the show

Rivian's R1T pickup truck will be available with three battery pack configurations ranging form 105kWh to 180kWh. The all-electric, all-wheel-drive motor will be capable of up to 400 miles on a single charge, with the smallest available motor offering a little more than 230 miles. Think an electric motor can't dole out speed? Think again. The R1T has a preliminary 0-60 mph rating of 3.2s and a top speed of 125 mph.

In addition to offering comfortable seating for up to five passengers, the truck's traditionally styled bed features a hidden berth for additional cargo or a spate of accessories, including an optional on-board kitchen system complete with dual burners. The onboard kitchen speaks to Rivian's goal of attracting outdoor enthusiasts who want a truck with power and a bit of hospitality. In fact, a camper extension for the truck's bed will also be made available.

Big Bang Baby

Inside, both the Rivian R1T and R1S boast futuristic yet inviting cabins. A rustic pickup feel can be attributed to sustainably sourced wood paneling while the main center display and driver gauge cluster are integrated in a very sleek, contemporary styled manner. Both vehicles are also expected to have digital electro-chromatic glass which will allow driver and passenger to control the exact amount of light that’s filtered through the cabin’s moonroof.

Life is a Dream

Rivian’s biggest hurdle will be convincing veteran pickup truck owners that an all-electric powertrain will give them the power that they’re accustomed to. In terms of looks and accessories, the Rivian R1T looks like a winner, and if it lives up to spec once it hits the road, it could very well mark a permanent and revolutionary stage in American pickup truck manufacturing.
