1. Product of Quality Time

The bond between father and son is undeniably strong. As is the bond between man and machine. And while not everyone is lucky enough to experience one or the other, Kevin Harrell and his son Richard are fortunate enough to have both. The duo put those two to the test by spending a full year building this amazingly clean 1974 F-100 together. And considering how much work they put into it, that's a pretty amazing feat in itself!

2. Losing Some Altitude

The duo found their F-100 project in progress, with some paint and body work done but little else. They began by stripping the whole thing apart and painting the frame before mating an air ride setup to the stock suspension. Combined with a C-notch out back, the old F-Series could now ride as low as they wanted it to. And of course, they had to ditch the factory 14-inch wheels for a set of timeless 20-inch Bullet replicas wrapped in 255/35R20 and 295/30R20 Toyo Proxes 4 tires.

3. Modern, Reliable Power

In keeping with the restomod theme, our father/son duo wanted a more modern, fuel-injected engine to power their ride. So they sourced a 5.0-liter V8 from a 1994 Mustang. To make it work in the old truck, they snagged a full EFI kit from Horsepower Solutions that includes a polished 1993 Mustang Cobra intake manifold. The engine remains otherwise mostly stock, save for a custom 2 1/2 inch exhaust and Flowmaster mufflers. Behind it resides a 4-speed transmission and posi rear with 3.50 gears.

4. Body Works

Next, the dynamic duo turned their attention to the outside of their F-100. They made it easy by pulling out their LMC catalog and ordering new front and rear bumpers, front fenders, grille, and all-new factory trim. The entire body was then covered in a nice shade of Ranger Smoke Gray, a shade so light it almost looks white.

5. Simple Threads

The clean, simple approach carries over to the interior as well. The dash was painted to match the exterior, and the bench seat was recovered in a complementary two-tone tweed material. Modern touches like a new radio, Grant steering wheel, Super Pro tach, and Ride Tech switches carry on the restomod theme, while a Vintage A/C unit keeps the pair cool on cruise night. Since completing their project, that's exactly what they've done, hitting up shows and driving the fresh F-100 around town. If only every father and son could be so lucky!
