F-Series Pickups Unfortunately Proves Popular with Thieves
Ford's F-Series pickups aren't just incredibly popular among consumers, as thieves continue to target them more than any other vehicle.
Universally Popular
Ford's F-Series pickups have remained atop America's sales charts for decades now, a dominating performance that proves they're by far the most popular trucks in the U.S. But that popularity also comes at a price, as F-Series pickups remain incredibly popular with thieves, too. The latest evidence of this comes to us from the National Insurance Crime Bureau's latest "Hot Wheels" report.

Topping the List
The Honda Civic topped NICB's Hot Wheels list as the most stolen model in the U.S. last year, but this year, the F-Series has surpassed it. According to stolen vehicle reports submitted to the National Crime Information Center, a total of 38,938 F-Series pickups were stolen last year, a truly astounding figure.

Small Asterisk
Ford trucks weren't the only ones that proved popular with thieves last year, as Chevy trucks came in third with 32,583 thefts. However, if you factor in the 11,164 GMC pickups reported stolen last year, that catapults GM's pickups into first place with a grand total of 43,747 thefts.

Meanwhile, Dodge pickups finished eighth with 11,292 thefts. In terms of model year results, the 2005 Chevy pickup finished fourth with 2,099 thefts, the 2019 Ram came in fifth with 1,547 stolen, 2001 Dodge pickups finished eighth with 11,174, and the 2018 GMC rounds out the top ten with 1,101 units stolen.

Disturbing Trend
If one thing is abundantly clear from this list, it's the fact that trucks, in general, are being targeted by thieves more than ever before. Thanks to their incredible popularity and the rising cost/complexity of parts, that doesn't figure to change anytime soon.

Helpful Tips
There are, of course, many things that truck owners can do to prevent them from being stolen. Simple things like locking your doors and removing the key can go a long way in preventing theft, yet it's something that many people just don't do. Otherwise, be sure and park in well-lit areas or garages if possible, and install an immobilizing or tracking device to deter potential thefts.
