1. Mossimo Giannulli

The automotive world and fashion are tightly related, and people with fine tastes can spot a fashionable vehicle just as quick as they can spot a fashionable outfit. Fashion designer Mossimo Giannulli showed that his refined taste in fashion can transfer over to automotive one quite easily. Mossimo started his career on Balboa Island in Newport Beach, CA when he was selling neon volleyball shorts with his unique yet unknown logo. By the end of the first year, which was 1986, Mossimo was making over a million dollars through his clothing company.

2. First Automotive Experience

Mossimo is no stranger to vehicles, in fact, his very first automotive styling exercise was a 1956 Ford F-100, which was custom built by Bobco in Lake Elsinore, California. Shortly after, Mossimo bought a similar 1956 Ford F-100 Big Window from his father's friend, but he never got to design it or restore it, so he sold it.

3. 1965 Ford F-100

Mossimo has always loved the look of the 1965 Ford F-100. He remarked, "I’ve always loved the goofy ‘Tonka’ truck esthetic of the F-100 step side." Mossimo loves the look of this pickup so much that he decided that the best look for it is a pure, stock restoration, which says a lot coming from the vision of a world renowned fashion designer. He wanted this '65 F-100 to look better than it did the day it was produced, and he surely delivered.

4. Lilly Restorations

To bring his vision to life, Mossimo took the classic truck to Lilly Restorations in San Antonio, Texas. The '65 F-100 was in a rough condition, however, with rust all over the truck and frame. After some scraping, welding, and sheet metal replacements, the classic Ford truck was ready for a serious transition.

5. Initial Steps

While the body was being primered and prepared for the biggest day of its life, the shop fabricated the brake lines, master cylinder, and brake booster brackets. Along with those parts the A/C lines, and everything that will go into the truck, including stereo parts for creature comforts were installed. Just like that, the truck was ready for one of the cleanest paint jobs you'll ever see in your life.

6. Paint Job

With the body prepared for paint, the team sprayed Ford's raven black color as the base-coat, then they added a BASF clear coat. After the paint job, the team spent approximately 200 hours just cutting and buffing the new paint. They began with 800-grit wet and dry paper and finished with 3,000 for the last buffing. The final result is an exterior far better than what Ford produced in 1964-1965.

7. Under the Hood

After finishing up the interior with fine, original-looking leather upholstery, the team looked towards the power plant. Under the hood there is a fully restored original 240 cubic-inches six-cylinder engine, using the best parts to rebuild it. The engine works collaboratively with a three-speed manual transmission, making this F-100 far better than an original one.
