Era of Customization

We automotive enthusiasts have been modifying our vehicles since virtually day one. But trucks and SUVs really started to gain steam in this department in the '70s and '80s, as more and more folks sought to individualize their rough and rugged rides. This '77 Bronco we spotted over at Barrett-Jackson is a fantastic example of what was going on in this era, as it sports a host of dealer modifications that remain intact to this day.

Stand Out

In this case, the modifying dealer was Chino Ford of California. And we aren't just talking about slapping on some lights or running boards in this case, either. Chino gave this Bronco a slew of goodies, including fender flares and a pretty sweet custom red and white paint job that really stands out, for starters.

Tasty Combo

The original 302 V8 resides under the hood, but it packs a series of additions as well. They include a Holley carb, Edelbrock intake manifold, MSD ignition, and Comp camshaft. Shifts are handled by a C4 automatic transmission, which sends power forward to a Dana 44 front axle and back to a Ford 9-inch rear diff. And everything has been rebuilt, repainted, or plated, powder coated, or re-chromed.

Keeping It Cool

The two-tone red and white interior was also a dealer-installed modification, and it looks pretty stunning, to say the least. In addition to all of the sweet threads, Chino also installed air conditioning in this Bronco to keep its occupants cool on hot summer days.

Extensive Work

The exterior mods were capped off with a roof rack, larger wheels and tires, and a tow hook. Once obtained by the second owner, the Bronco was completely restored to its (mostly) original spec, including a complete strip-down of the body with zero body filler used to straighten it out. At that time, the new owner also replaced the rear quarters with steel flared fenders.

Racking up Accolades

The new owner also added a couple of modern components to his ride. That includes a Deaver 2-inch suspension lift, gas shocks, disc brakes, ceramic-coated headers, and Flowmaster mufflers. They also removed all of the original smog equipment in the process. Since then, the Bronco has been racking up accolades, including a 2018 Grand Nationals Roadster Show Best in Class award, and it's been featured in print a couple of times.

Rare Sight

With a slew of cool additions, both old and new, it's no surprise that this classic Bronco attracted a ton of attention when it crossed the block at Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale. When the hammer fell, the 'ute found a new home with a substantial $110,000 price tag. But then again, you certainly don't see too many Broncos with so many cool and original dealer add-ons these days.
