A new segment of trucks

You may know Vaughn Gittin Jr. as a professional drift driver who is usually behind the wheel of a tuned 700-plus horsepower Mustang that's provided by RTR vehicles for the Formula Drift series. Now, RTR has used its experience in crafting that car to put together a performance-centric F-150. This truck is the first of what the company hopes will become a new segment of pickups that are made up of "Muscle Trucks."

One tough truck

The RTR truck started life as a 2018 F-150 4x4 Lariat SuperCrew before taking a dip through the some of the mods that the drift prepped Mustang that Gittin Jr. drives has applied. Most notably of those mods is the D-shaped LED lights set in the grille. Other exterior changes include fender flairs, deck lid applique for the tailgate, and forged RTR Tech 6 Off-Road wheels wrapped in 33-inch Nitto Ridge Grappler tires.

Ford believes in fun

“I am a longtime fan of the entire F-Series line up and the new 2018 F-150's are just mind-blowing on all fronts,” RTR creator Vaughn Gittin Jr. said. “Expanding RTR into the Ford F-150 model has been a goal since day one. It has been amazing seeing my vision of the RTR Muscle Truck come to life with RTR's unique modern aggressive styling and multipurpose functionality becoming reality. Following some final vehicle dynamics testing and tuning, this smile-inducing truck will be ready for everyone to enjoy. This Is just one of the multiple F-150 RTR models we expect to release through Ford dealers in 2018. Stay tuned!”

An understated cabin

On the interior, there aren't many changes but a few Ford accessories are thrown in to make things stand out from a normal SuperCrew model. The most notable of the changes are Katzkin leather and a dash plaque signed by Gittin Jr. However, the looks department is not where this vehicle excels at...

Able to walk in both worlds

For performance, the truck has a modified 5.0-liter V8 that produces 600 horsepower and is mated to a 10-speed transmission. The exhaust system comes courtesy of MagnaFlow performance and delivers the rumble that is right at home with a beast of this caliber. The chassis on the truck is enhanced with travel coilovers and rear dampers, an extended wishbone suspension system, a heavy-duty rear axle, payload maximizer springs and Currie Enterprise full floating hubs. The thing that sets the RTR apart from other trucks is that it was built with the desire for it to fit the owner who goes off-roading AND desires track performance. It's essentially the middle bowl of porridge that Goldilocks individuals are looking for.

You can actually own this

“The Ford F-150 RTR Muscle Truck Concept is a multi-purpose machine capable of performing the wide range of tasks all F-150's can handle, including other performance benefits the RTR Lab cooked up,” said team RTR marketing and communications director, Michael Crenshaw. “Whether looking for some fun off-road, drifting around the next corner, getting some air, or simply cruising the streets with family and friends in style, the F-150 RTR Muscle Truck Concept is designed for all the fun you can throw at it!”

The best thing about this truck is it is not a one-off exercise build Ford says, this Muscle Truck will be available at Ford dealers all across the U.S.
