Breaking Down the Cost of Popular 2021 F-150 Options
Some 2021 F-150 options are bargains, while others may not be worth the high price of admission.
Pay the Cost
As truck fans already know, buyers can spend a little or a lot for a new F-150, depending on how they option it. That's certainly true with the all-new 2021 F-150, which can cost anywhere from around $30k to $70k. Not all options on the 14th gen pickup are terribly expensive, however - in fact, some are relative bargains. So we thought we'd break down some of the truck's more interesting options and whether or not they're worth the price of admission.

Max Recline Seats
The new F-150's Max Recline Seats have gotten a lot of attention, mostly because they're a pretty cool feature that many travelers will be keen to take advantage of. They're also rather cheap, with a price tag of just $340. There's just one problem - the seats are only available on King Ranch, Limited, or Platinum trim trucks, which are obviously the three most expensive trim levels.

Upgraded Tailgate
The new F-150 can also be had with a power-up and down tailgate, which costs a mere $695. Once again, however, it's only available on Lariat and up trim levels. And those that want to step up to the upgraded tailgate with a work surface, c-clamp mount, and built-in phone and pencil holders will need to opt for the SuperCrew configuration, which will cost them nearly $50,000 to start.

ProPower Onboard
The F-150's awesome ProPower Onboard system, which is essentially an on-board generator, is a relative bargain at $995, and can be had on all gas-powered F-150s. But to get the most powerful version of this system, buyers must also opt for the PowerBoost Hybrid, which can cost a little or a lot depending on which engine you choose. Center Console Tray Table
Another bargain is the new F-150's center console tray table/work surface and stowaway shifter, which will only run you $165 and is available on all trim levels. The system works by folding the shifter flat, at which point the user can fold out the center console into a nice, flat work surface big enough for a laptop.

Active Drive Assist
Another option getting a good bit of attention is the 2021 F-150's Active Drive Assist feature, which allows the driver to operate the pickup hands-free. The feature costs $995 but is only available on the Lariat SuperCab, and you must also purchase the various other packages, depending on the trim level you pick, to get it. And that can cost as much as $6,920 extra.

Pay to Play
None of this is terribly surprising, of course, as the more technological features have always been reserved for higher trim levels of the F-150. But on the flip side, this also allows Ford to continue to sell a more bare-bones version of its pickup for a reasonable price as well.
