Equipped Workhorse

It might not be the best candidate for a 'best in show' award, but getting the job done is no problem for this veteran workhorse. With its rust repaired and a fresh coat of paint, the snowplow-equipped, 1976 F-250 flatbed is like-new again. Recently scooped up at auction, the all-business 3/4-ton truck has decades of service left to offer.

Perry Business

All the original paperwork came with the sale—including the factory window sticker. Records show that the F-250 was purchased new by the Perry Automobile Company of South Barre, Vermont on November 8, 1975. As the area's Ford dealership, Perry Automobile opened its doors in 1910, subsequently remaining in business for seventy-five years, until it was sold in 1985.

Regular Custom

Numerous factory options were added to the F-250, bringing the total cost to $7,611.34. Among the functional additions was the 4x4 option, power steering, and an 'Extra Cooling' radiator. More decorative elements included the cab lights. Listed as a Custom Styleside Pickup, the truck was originally finished in Wimbledon White and Bahama Blue—a $51.10 charge for the Regular Tutone package.

Options Ordered

The refurbished F-250 rides on black-painted 16'' steel wheels with 235/85 Hankook Dynapro ATM tires. The rims are listed on the build sheet, but there is no mention that they are original. The front axle is equipped with locking hubs, another of the functional options selected when the truck was ordered. Also listed was a Rear Step Bumper—now removed.

Original Detail

The truck is powered by a 360 FE V8, linked to a four-speed manual transmission and a dual-range transfer case. The carburetor-fed big-block is capped with the original air cleaner and valve covers, which show a bit of corrosion. Ensuring that the F-250 is ready for any work detail, the plow's hydraulic system that runs off the engine has been rebuilt

Performed Portion

The seller acquired the truck from the original owner’s family in 2016. After which, the steel-framed flatbed with wood slats was constructed and fitted. Rust repair was also performed and included replacing the cab corners, lower door skins, inner and outer fender, and a portion of the floor. The snowplow and lights were fitted by the original owner.

Comfort Output

Still intact, the interior received the Ranger trim level. Among other items, the package included a matching dash pad, floor liner, and door panels. The bench seat, originally optioned as Kitted Vinyl, has been reupholstered in a tuck-roll-style. Creature comforts in the cab include a factory-installed high output heater and a Philco push-button AM radio mounted in the center of the dash.

Highly Productive

The venerable work truck was sold with a Pennsylvania title as an Antique Vehicle. A collection of vintage Vermont road maps were also included. With its clean bodywork and only 22k miles on the clock, this F-250 is next-to-new. The big yellow snowplow blade and new-looking wooden flatbed is a good indication that those years will be highly productive ones.
