1. No Bed Liner

Unless you own a pickup truck because you like how they look and you don't intend on using the bed, you should always have a bed liner of some sort. Whether it is a drop-in, a spray-on, or a roll-on, if you intend on using your truck's bed, always have a liner on. If you don't use a bed liner, you can scratch the bed of your truck, and rust will be your new enemy.

2. Late Maintenance

The average person is 1,000 miles behind on maintenance; however, if you really think about it, your engine has internal metal components, turning around at 4,000, 6,000, and 7,000 rounds per minute, if you're not properly lubricating it, how do you expect it to live long? The same goes with all other parts of your truck, the more you wait, the more wear you will cause. Follow the maintenance intervals, do all of the services on time, and you should have your Ford truck for many years to come.

3. Just Raise it Up

Let's face it, we would all love to raise our trucks and have nice monstrous trucks, but there is a procedure you have to follow. If you're looking to lift your Ford truck without spending a lot of money, you will probably do it wrong. A lifted truck puts tremendous stress on the rest of your suspension system, and the higher up you go, the more components you have to change, or else they start going bad, not to mention sacrifice the handling of your pickup truck. If you want your truck to be a monster truck, make sure the suspensions can support it, from regular rubber bushings to shocks and springs.

4. Over Towing

Every and each Ford truck has a specific towing capacity that you must not go over. If your friend asks you to help him move his trailer, you should always check its weight before towing. If you tow over the towing capacity of your truck, you will put extreme stress on your engine and transmission, as well as many other parts, and you may even cause permanent damage. Don't risk overheating your transmission, instead, just follow the proper towing ratings.

5. 4x4 on Dry Pavement

If you're lucky enough to have a 4x4 Ford truck, make sure you use it correctly. Nothing is worse than running your 4x4 system while driving over dry pavement. The 4x4 allows all four wheels to go at the same speed, and with the dry pavement offering really good traction. When you turn, you risk increasing the pressure in the gears and driveshaft, because the wheels need to turn at different speeds. The inside wheels have a shorter distance to cover than the outside wheels when turning, and if you force them to go at the same speed, you can eventually say goodbye to your 4WD system.

6. Improper Tire Pressure

The tire pressure is the easiest, most overlooked pieces of maintenance on your truck. Although this won't cost you your engine, it can easily cost you a few thousand dollars in parts. Having uneven tire pressure can cause a number of unnecessary issues, which can easily be prevented if you check your tires' pressure once a month. Remember, when the weather changes, your tires' pressure change as well.

7. Ignoring Issues

Issues cause more issues, that's just the reality of things. For instance, if your brake pads are wearing out and you don't replace them, you will soon need to replace your rotors as well, which will add a few hundred dollars to your original problem. The same goes for most of your truck parts. So whenever you hear a new sound, or if you have a bad feeling about your truck, be sure to diagnose it properly so you don't ruin something else.
