Daily Slideshow: 5 Things to Love About the New Ranger
After nearly a decade of sitting on the side and watching Chevrolet and Toyota dominate the mid-size truck market, Ford is ready to throw its hat back in the ring with the 2019 Ford Ranger. Here are some of its more highlight-worthy features.
1. It drives as well as it handles
The Ford Ranger can be used for heavy-duty projects, but it’s also of use to the daily driver. So, it’s a little smaller than its F-series brethren, but that doesn’t mean it’s any bit weaker. The truck is built on a special boxed frame to handle heavy loads, and also features a solid steel bumper with integrated tow hooks.

2. Single engine option
Sure there’s a niche group out there that prefers to drive their trucks using a manual transmission, but the Ranger is designed to simplify the truck driving experience. To this end, it’s offered with only an automatic transmission. More specifically, the 2019 Ranger (only) features a 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with multiple power level options (the details of which have yet to be released).

3. 10-speed transmission
Yup, you read that right – the new Ranger comes with the new 10-speed automatic transmission, the same that FoMoCo and GM co-developed and is featured in the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, Ford Mustang GT, Ford F-150 Raptor, and Cadillac Escalade.

4. Customize it any way you want
Truck drivers love to customize their vehicles and more often than not, this is achieved by updating the truck’s wheels and color. Fortunately, Ford recognized this need and sought to satisfy its buyers’ desires by offering the new Ranger with eight different wheel options to go along with eight different color options.

5. It’s meant to get dirty
2019 Ford Ranger buyers will have the option to invest in the X4 off-road package, which includes adding upgraded tires, front bash plate, uprated off-road suspension, frame-bolted skidplates, and off-road specific driving modes, including Trail Control and Hill Descent Control.
Worth pointing out is that the Ranger shares a terrain management with the Raptor, incorporating four different driving modes for different scenarios. Feeling adventurous? Then you can pick from Normal, Grass/Gravel/Snow, Mud, and Sand.
