Intro

The 2026 Ford Super Duty trucks are starting to roll in. They are extremely capable, but also quite expensive. And that's before you start adding all of those tempting options that can really drive up the price of your truck. It's like putting toppings on your pizza. But which options give you the most bang for the buck?

We spent some time building 2026 Ford Super Duty trucks on the configurator to see the prices and what type of value they delivered. Based on that, we were able to put together this list of the five best and the five worst option values on the 2026 trucks.

Overpriced #5 – Tonneau Pickup Box Cover – Retractable ($2,250)

A tonneau cover can be a key piece of equipment on a pickup truck. However, the retractable hard cover from Ford will set you back $2,250. That's a good chunk of change. If you must have a hard retractable cover, you can get one for less on the aftermarket. Or just go with the soft folding cover from Ford, which is less than one-third of the price.

Best Value #5 – Tremor Off-Road Package ($4,450)

Adding the Tremor package is not cheap. However, the price is justified given all of the included hardware. 35-inch tires, locking rear axle, limited-slip diff, skid plates, unique front springs, off-road running boards, water fording vent tubes, Rock Crawl and Trail Control Modes, and a whole lot more are part of the package. The Tremor is the only way to get the upgraded 10R 140 transmission on a gas-powered F-250 (otherwise, you have the 10R 100). This is all functional hardware that will make your truck more capable for a reasonable amount of money.

*Every 7.3L F-350 includes the upgraded transmission

Overpriced #4 – Ford Connectivity Package ($745)

You are paying $745 up front for a plan that locks you in for seven (7) years. And it is non-transferable. Are you sure you will keep the truck for seven years? And what will tech look like in 2032? Will this be horribly outdated by then? A lot of folks are not going to get the full value out of their purchase.

Best Value #4 – Non-Standard Paint ($395 - $995)

Paint color can drastically transform the look of the truck. And for less than a thousand bucks, you can upgrade beyond the basic included colors. Not a bad deal, especially when you consider how much paint it takes to cover one of these trucks. This is a reasonable splurge for paint that is not black or white.

Overpriced #3 – 6.7L High Output Power Stroke ($2,500 over regular 6.7L)

The High Output diesel engine is a showstopper. But so is the regular 6.7L for $2,500 less. The capabilities of the two engines are nearly identical. Sure, the more expensive engine gives you 1,200 pound-feet of torque and the bragging rights that go with it. But in 99 percent of cases, the regular 6.7L can deliver everything that you need for a lot less money.

Best Value #3 – FX4 Package ($600)

Hill Descent Control, off-road shocks, skid plates, and some decals for 600 bucks installed isn’t a bad deal. This won’t make your truck a hardcore off-roader. But we are only talking about $600 here. Chances are you are already spending over $60K on a new truck. An extra 1 percent for some functional upgrades is a fair deal.

Overpriced #2 – Black Appearance Package ($4,295)

The Black Appearance Package looks cool. However, at the end of the day, you are spending a lot of money on some black trim and wheels. If money is no object, then by all means get this option. But if you are watching your budget, you would be better off spending this money on something that will provide more functionality.

Best Value #2 – 8-Foot Bed ($205)

Just over two hundred bucks, and you add over a foot to the bed length. The standard bed is 6.75 feet long. So, jumping up to 8 feet is a noticeable difference. It not only makes your truck more capable and easier to haul larger items, but the price difference is so small, it's basically a rounding error. And it also gives buyers access to the available 48-gallon fuel tank for 176" wheelbase Super Duty models.

Overpriced #1 – Platinum Plus Package ($7,000)

If you're looking at a Super Duty Platinum, you're already getting a swanky truck. The Platinum Plus Package ups the luxury game with a good deal of added equipment. Plus, you get the Premium Maintenance Plan and some other little baubles like a welcome package and 1:1 texting with a Ford truck expert. Fine.

But this is a $7,000 option.

If you need the best of everything, then go for it. But the regular Platinum is already luxurious and expensive enough. We would put the seven grand towards gas or diesel instead.

Best Value #1 – 7.3L ‘Godzilla’ V8 ($1,500)

The standard engine in much of the Super Duty range is the 6.8L V8. And it is a decent engine that is plenty capable. However, for just $1,500 more, you can upgrade to the 7.3L Godzilla engine. The 7.3L is stronger and more capable than the 6.8L. The price difference is such that unless you are really watching every penny, upgrading to the 7.3L is an easy decision.
