Going Up

Times are tough in the automotive world, where the semiconductor chip shortage and other supply chain issues are wreaking havoc on production. This is leading to some pretty spartan dealer lots, a complete lack of incentives, and even markups in many cases. Thus, it should also come as no surprise that the 2022 Ford F-150 will cost more than the 2021 model, according to CarsDirect.

Modest Increase

The news of this cost increase for the 2022 F-150 comes from the truck's latest order guide. Luckily, however, these increases aren't massive in most cases, with the majority of trims going up by just $215 to $350. However, there are some cases where buyers will have to dish out much more to own one.

Cheapest Version

The least expensive 2022 F-150 is of course the XL 4x2 Regular Cab, which has an MSRP of $31,335 after Ford's mandatory $1,695 destination and delivery charge. However, that's $350 more than the 2021 version of this particular configuration, which costs $30,985.

Fancy Trim, Higher Prices

As one might imagine, these price increases go up as the trim levels go up, with the range-topping Limited receiving the biggest price increase. The 2022 F-150 Limited will start out at $75,150, which is $2,280 more than the current MSRP of $72,870. Adding four-wheel drive to the mix costs an additional $3,425, which gives the fancy pickup an MSRP of $78,575 without adding any additional options.

Getting Close

That's within breathing distance of $80k, which is obviously a lot for a pickup, or any vehicle, for that matter. But even the bottom-barrel base price of the 2022 F-150 has increased by $700, to $30,635, for the new model year.

Supply and Demand

Given the fact that the 2021 F-150 remains in high demand, most buyers won't care about these price increases, especially since a lot of folks are sitting on a long waiting list just to get one. In fact, Ford recently had to move some of its 2021 F-150 orders to the 2022 model year because it simply can't produce enough pickups to meet demand.

Waiting Game

Thus, for those that don't absolutely have to have a brand new truck, it makes sense to simply wait. No one really knows when the current supply chain bottlenecks might end, with estimates ranging from sometime in 2022 to 2024. But if you can wait it out, you'll likely save thousands of dollars for your patience.
