Lost My Time in Sky Blue

There are vehicles that set the scene and vehicles no scene is complete without. This fully restored 1976 Ford Bronco by Pensacola Florida’s renowned shop Velocity Restorations is most certainly the latter. The truck’s striking blue paint job and black fender flares are enough to generate fanfare no matter where you drive, but what truly separates this reimagined Ford Bronco amongst its restored counterparts is its unique powertrain.

Warm Wind Blowing

Surprisingly, this Bronco hasn’t been lifted and maintains its powerful height and stance thanks to its BF Goodrich All-Terrain tires and blacked-out Pacer brand wheels. In motion, the vehicle looks sleek and sophisticated, but when at a stop, its height and powerful wheelbase bely its ability to tackle off-road conditions with ease. It’s a poignant combination of style and power —precisely what Velocity has become known for.

The Road Sings Through Me

While the vast majority of recent Velocity Ford Bronco rebuilds have utilized Ford Coyote engines mated to manual transmissions, the baby blue ’76 offers a unique powertrain that makes it a perfect daily driver in addition to the awesome weekend warrior. This particular Bronco is powered by a Ford 302 engine and C4 automatic transmission, ideal for navigating parking lots and sand dunes alike.

This ’76 sits on a fully-rebuilt chassis following its off-frame restoration. It features a Dana 44 front axle, Ford 9” rear axle and has had a custom-built four-point roll cage added to solidify cabin safety. The truck’s impressive powertrain also requires ample stopping power, which is provided by its Wilwood 4-wheel disc brakes and Hydroboost assisted braking system.

While most original Ford Bronco restorations involve a complete interior swap-out and redesign, this 1976 was found in solid enough condition to maintain its original seats. And while the black leather driver and passenger seats are a cool throwback to the ’70s, the vehicle’s on-board audio and logistics were not. No surprise that the Velocity team has upgraded the outdate tech with a state-of-the-art Pioneer digital head unit and digital dashboard gauges.
