This classic Bronco was built for speed with around four hundred horsepower on tap.
Battle ready
John Cole & Elite Broncos down in San Diego has been building quality first-gen Broncos for over thirty years now. Taking a look at this off-road Bronco is incredible proof in the pudding that three decades of experience definitely leads to a quality product. The shop is currently taking part in the Battle of the Builders competition with this entry for SEMA 360.
An ode to Big Oly
This build is an homage to Parnelli Jones's Big Oly Bronco that set the racing world on fire way back in the day. Parnelli and Bill entered the 1972 Baja 1000 (the Mexican 1000 back then) and led the race from start to finish behind the wheel of Big Oly.
Original US Mags
Then, in 1973 they again won the Baja 1000, the Baja 500, and the Mint 400! The secret sauce was that Big Oly took performance parts from the race tracks and set them loose in a desert trouncing vehicle.
Big wing envy
John Cole remarks, “I was always watching Wide World of Sports as a kid and saw Parnelli Jones racing Broncos and was always intrigued by it. I have been racing for over 30 years now, but it never failed: I would be in the middle of a race and spot a Bronco and would have to drop everything and go check it out.”
A modern classic
Fully built from the ground up fuel injected 5.0 Cobra engine good for about 400 horsepower and a Valley Transmission for a modified Ford C4 automatic.
