1968 F-100 Restomod Keeps It All in the Family
Sticking with period-correct mechanical elements may present tougher challenges, but the results are well worth the effort in the case of Jeff Werner's Ford F-100.
Classic Power
Restomods have become a huge part of the automotive enthusiast world over the past several years. Adding modern performance and flair to classic vehicles has never quite been as popular as it is now. And that's no surprise, given the abundance of information and ease of access to parts. The power source is often an area that receives an overhaul, with powerful, reliable, and modular crate motors so readily available.

Period-Correct
Even so, some folks would rather maintain the classic vehicle's authentic driving and power delivery feel, not to mention the sound. Jeff Werner is one of those folks. And with his 1968 Ford F-100 project, he decided to stay away from the temptation of a modern GM mill, opting to stay with a power source of the same era as the truck.

390 Engine
The F-100 originally came with a 390 V8, which wasn't quite up to par with the direction that Werner wanted to take the build. So the motor was yanked out and replace by a three-web 390 from a 1972 F-250. The motor has been thoroughly reworked and optimized for more output and efficiency.

Performance Upgrades
The engine block, now bored to 445 ci, is aided by a number of performance upgrades to give it even more grunt. An Edelbrock Performer intake is in place along with N.O.S. 427 adjustable rockers, a COMP FE roller cam, CVF Racing pulley setup, Melling high-volume oil pump, and much more were added by Keith Craft Performance Engines. The stroked V8 breathes free through Hedman headers and Flowmaster mufflers, and is mated to a tuned C6 transmission, which replaces the outgoing C4 unit.

Refreshed Interior
The truck has been given a complete refresh on the inside as well. The 60/40 seat, covered in leather provides a comfortable ride. Speaking of comfort, the truck is also equipped with Classic Auto Air A/C, a 2,000-watt Pioneer sound system, and fresh carpet and trim all around.
