1967 Bronco U13 is 1 of Just 199 with V8 Power

Broncos just don't get any rarer than the U13 roadster, unless you're talking about a U13 roadster with V8 power.

Rarest of the Rare

Of all the various first-gen Ford Bronco body styles, none were built in such scarce quantities as the U13 Roadster. And, well, it's easy to see why. Not everyone can get by without doors or a proper roof. But when you throw V8 power in the mix, as is the case with this U13 up for grabs at Mecum Auctions, those numbers dwindle even further.

Even Rarer

For starters, only 698 U13s were produced in 1967, which is just a small percentage of the 14,000+ Broncos built in total. Of those 698, only 199 came with a V8 engine. After obtaining a Marti Report for this particular Bronco, the seller discovered that it is just one of 32 examples built with a Poppy Red exterior and white interior. And we're betting that this is easily the nicest one left in existence.

Almost Stock

Those numbers are just a small part of what makes this Bronco so special, of course. After undergoing a complete frame-off restoration, this beauty looks far better than it did the day it originally rolled off the assembly line. The interior is a true work of art and is mostly stock. However, the original AM radio has been replaced with an AM/FM unit, which doesn't deduct any points in our book.

Immaculate Engine

Lift the hood, and you'll find Ford's legendary 289 V8, an engine that saw duty in a variety of their vehicles in the '60s. This immaculate engine is backed up by a 3-speed manual transmission. Engine bays just don't get any cleaner than this, and we weren't surprised to learn that this Bronco has only traveled 625 miles since its restoration was completed. Likely on paved roads and in perfect, sunny weather, we'd guess.

Fair Weather Cruiser

Altogether, Ford produced around 5,000 U13 Roadsters during the first-gen Bronco's production run. Which is a tiny sliver of the roughly 225,000 total Broncos built in those early years. Many believe that only a couple hundred of those 5,000 are still around today, and only a handful of those are in the kind of condition this beautiful '67 presents in.

Filling the Trophy Case

Thus, it's really no surprise that this Bronco also brought home the Most Outstanding Truck Award at the 29th Annual Fabulous Fords Forever Show in 2014. And we're betting that whoever brings this gorgeous 'ute home will be filling up their own trophy case for years to come.
