One of 5000 Built

The resurgence of popularity and demand for late-model Broncos has led to the unearthing of many classics from yesteryears. But perhaps none are as incredible as this very rare 1966 Bronco U13 Roadster. Setting aside the fact that only 5,000 specimens of this particular model of Ford Bronco were ever made, the vehicle's incredible, the ready-to-restore shape makes it the apple of any garage's eye.

Diamond in the Rough

This particular model Bronco’s limited production wasn’t the only thing that made it unique way back in 1966. That was the year that marked the closing of the last Studebaker plant and The Sound of Music won the Best Picture award. At the time of original production, the ’66 Ford Bronco U13 Roadster was the only open-body roadster available with bucket seats.

Ace in the Hole

In fact, Ford’s first Bronco factory wasn’t even up and running by the time the ’66 Ford Bronco U13’s was ready for production. So each one was produced by a Ford subsidiary, Budd Manufacturing. This particular model is believed to be one of approximately 300 such vehicles still remaining. Now consider the fact it was rare the day it was brand new and that’s pretty damn impressive.

Endless Possibilities

While some lucky bandit has made off with the truck’s original seats, the bare bones of this ’66 U13 Bronco are very much intact. This rare classic would make a terrific candidate for restoration in the capable hands of the right person. The body itself is in particularly good form and has a cool rusted patina that many Bronco restorers keep for a vintage, worn look.

Ready for Rebirth

The allure of possibility and reinvention lie at the heart of all major automotive restoration projects, and this ’66 Ford Bronco is no different. In fact, the vehicle’s potential is staggering with a new suspension and an overhaul of its original Ford Coyote 5.0L engine. Then throw in some custom interior upgrades and this truck will go from rusty to rad in a matter of weeks.

A New Day Awaits

With an impressive catalog of Ford Bronco restorations under its belt, Pensacola’s Velocity Restoration has worked wonders with antique trucks in far worse shape. That’s why Bronco aficionados across the U.S. can’t wait to see what becomes of this distinctly rare model that is a veritable unicorn in the stable of original Broncos.
