On Gold Pavements

When this American classic rolled off the Ford assembly line in 1965, President Lyndon Johnson was attempting to calm a shattered nation and folks shared tell of their highway adventures via postcard, mailed with stamps that cost just five cents. Many years have passed since the days this classic Ford F-100 was brand new, but in the eyes of vintage truck enthusiasts and the automotive restoration world, this piece of history will roll on forever.

Silver Horses Ran Down Moonbeams

Ford engineers changed little about the 1965 F-100 compared to previous years. In fact, there are few striking dissimilarities between the '65 and '64 Ford F-100 exterior to the naked eye. However, the truck's front leaf spring design was abandoned for coil springs and twin axles supported by larger radius control arms, giving the '65 F-100 a considerably more comfortable ride and handling.

Dawnlight Smiles on You Leaving

In terms of power, the 1965 Ford F-100 differed from all previous models —and for the better. Gone was the long-utilized 292-cubic -inch V8, replaced with a much more powerful 352-cubic-inch V8 capable of 208 horsepower, making the Ford F-100 one of the peppiest trucks on the road the year it debuted.

Kindness in the Hard Crowd

This particular F-100 features an all-original interior, including candy apple red faux-leather bench seat and dash. It also comes with the original steering wheel. Looking for truly vintage sound? You've got it thanks to the original factory AM radio which still works like a charm. While this restoration is a standard model, the new "luxury" trim level for 1965 Ford F-100 offered floor carpeting and an available center console.

The Old Time Now Forgotten

Bright silver metallic side moldings envelop the truck's original bed which boasts a cool patina paint job. The 1965 Ford F-100 double-walled construction was implemented to prevent bed cargo from damaging the exterior of the bedside, while a newly developed latch system replaced the previously utilized chain and hook tailgate closure.

The Shadows Run From Themselves

1965 marked an important year for the American pickup truck market, as Ford engineers continued to try and supply a truck that was as comfortable as it was sporty and ready for everyday tasks. A little over 7,000 standard model Ford F-100's were produced in 1965, a number which has made them prized amongst both collectors and restorers is an iconic vehicle in the history of American pick up trucks.
