Sentimental Value
Many of us have sentimental attachments to our vehicles. That nostalgic connection is often very strong in the Ford truck enthusiast realm. And so is the case with Scott Burdett, who has memories of a 1956 Ford truck as his first vehicle. It was a truck he worked on alongside his father, but had to sell when it was time to fund the start of his own family.Photos: Truck Trend
'56 Ford Truck
His emotional connection with the '56 Ford pickup was never lost. And as the years passed, and Burdett had a nice chunk of cash saved up, he eventually decided to revisit his love for the truck. He began searching for a well-maintained example to rebuild. That's not an easy task considering most of these haulers were used as workhorses and beat into the ground.>>Join the conversation about this Tobasco red classic F-100 right here in the Ford-Trucks forum.
Unique Power Plant
Persistence finally paid off, and he was able to find a truck in decent shape. This one had an interesting caveat, though. The motor had been replaced at some point with a '58 Hemi V8. Many would consider that blasphemy. Burdett felt that made the truck unique if anything. So he chose to rebuild the engine, entrusting Performance Automotive Warehouse for the work.>>Join the conversation about this Tobasco red classic F-100 right here in the Ford-Trucks forum.
Kicking Off the Rebuild
While dropping the engine off, a shiny supercharged Hemi caught his eye. He knew right at that moment that's what he wanted for his truck. As the folks at Performance Automotive Warehouse went to work on the motor, Burdett turned his attention to the rest of the project. First order of business was pulling the body apart, stripping everything down to bare metal, and repairing and replacing damaged and rusty panels.>>Join the conversation about this Tobasco red classic F-100 right here in the Ford-Trucks forum.
Perfecting the Bodywork
The majority of the truck's panels and parts have remained original, with a few small exceptions, the hood cutout being the most prominent. Burdett's suspension system of choice was an air ride setup with a Mustang II IFS and a four-link with Panhard bar at the rear.>>Join the conversation about this Tobasco red classic F-100 right here in the Ford-Trucks forum.
Finishing Touches
The final stage of the restoration was the interior after all the bodywork and engine rebuild was complete. Custom Stewart Warner gauges adorn the instrument panel and center console. The seats and other interior panels are beautifully reupholstered as well. The two years of work transformed the old truck into this show-ready Ford, which was featured on Truck Trend back in 2008.>>Join the conversation about this Tobasco red classic F-100 right here in the Ford-Trucks forum.
