This Ain't No UPS Truck

If there's one major difference between today and the first half of last century, it's that we used to do everything in style. While folks are perfectly happy wearing brown shorts and tooling around in giant brown boxes to deliver packages these days, it wasn't always that way. No, we used to deliver goods in vehicles like this gorgeous 1951 F-1 panel van.

An Award Winning Restoration

The red on red F-1 has undergone a painstakingly detailed top to bottom restoration. Everything is as it was when the van rolled off the assembly line in the early 50's, from the color to the radio and heater. And all of that hard work has paid off handsomely, as the F-1 has since become both an AACA Senior winner and a Dearborn Award-winner.

The Drivetrain

Under the hood, you'll find the original Flathead V8 still chugging along in all its glory. Behind it sits the original 3-speed manual transmission as well. Both undoubtedly look and run better than new, but you won't hear us complain about that minor little detail.

Interior

As is the case with all the trucks from this era, the interior was an exercise in utilitarian simplicity. Things like heated seats, dual zone climate control, and satellite radio were only a pipe dream in the '50s.

And even if they did exist back then, we doubt they would have been offered in trucks. Because back then trucks were used for work, and work only. From the spartan dash to the plain vinyl seats to the wood floor in the back, there are no frivolous features here.

Living the pampered life

This beauty rolled across the block at the Barrett-Jackson Northeast auction at the Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, CT. The classic delivery van sold for $29,700 with no reserve and is most likely sitting pretty as a fine addition to some lucky person's collection.
