Total Tow Package

A tow truck is a tow truck, usually some boring vanilla rig with little to look at other than some chrome and decals. Which is perfectly fine, because tow trucks are made to, well, tow other vehicles. Not win awards at car shows. But in the case of this killer 1948 Ford F2 up for grabs at MotoeXotica, you can have your literal cake and eat it too.

Laundry List

As you can tell just by looking at it, this is not a stock '48 3/4 ton pickup. Not by a long shot. The mods list here reads like something out of one of those old encyclopedia collections. For starters, the vintage F2 body rides on a modern F-150 frame, which opens up a world of possibilities.

Built to Work (Maybe)

The cab is, of course, an original F2 piece. But behind it lies a custom tow truck bed, minus the actual hook, cables, and mounting arms. But if you were so inclined, adding that stuff and using this vintage pickup as a work rig is well within the realm of possibilities.

Beefy Looks

If nothing else, this now four-wheel drive pickup certainly looks awesome. Especially when you add on a set of custom corrugated metal bumpers and running boards. It all rolls on sharp chrome wheels wrapped in beefy LT305/70R16 tires.

Big, Red, and Bad

The rather large exterior has been coated in bright red, because what other colors would you paint it? And the whole thing has been custom pinstriped and covered in Kirby's Auto Service livery for that added effect.

Sharp Contrast

The new/old theme continues inside, where a mix of vintage and modern components blend together quite nicely. The bench seat is covered in red and white vinyl, which contrasts with the black carpet and headliner perfectly.

Perfect Blend

The large, original steering wheel has been replaced with a smaller, three-spoke piece. The instrument cluster now sports modern digital gauges, while controlling the 3-speed automatic transmission happens right from the column.

Old School Power

The builder of this amazing Ford F2 could have opted for a small, older engine or even a modern one. But instead, they chose a built 390 to ensure it can get down the road with ease. It wraps up one heck of a cool and unique build, and it just so happens to be our idea of the ideal tow truck!
