Intro

First things first. This article should not be taken as financial advice. We always recommend that you buy a truck because you love it, not because you think it will make a good investment. With that out of the way let’s take a look at ten Ford trucks that you could buy and basically drive for free.

Yes, for FREE. How is that possible?

These ten Ford trucks are all highly collectible, which means they're more likely to appreciate in value than to depreciate. This also means you can buy one today, have a bunch of fun putting on some miles, and sell it for what you paid, or possibly even more.

Not a bad deal, right?

It's also worth pointing out that maintenance, registration, insurance, repairs, and other miscellaneous costs always factor in, so breaking even or profitability is far from guaranteed. But if you do your homework, buy a well-kept example, and maintain it, it's much harder to lose with one of these ten Fords than with newer or less collectible models.

Here are ten great options.

10. 2023+ F-150 Raptor R

The Raptor R is the Raptor we always wanted. A screaming 700 horsepower supercharged V8 engine lifted from the Shelby GT500 powers this beast. You also get massive 37-inch tires, FOX long-travel suspension and a whole host of other goodies. Yes, these trucks are expensive and tough to get. However, with the whole world tripping over itself to rush EVs to the market, how much longer do you think a truck like this will be available? This is likely peak Raptor, and it is a truck that we don’t see depreciating any time soon.

9. 2010 – 2014 SVT Raptor

The trophy truck for the street that started it all. When the Raptor was released in 2010 it was like nothing else available. The first-generation trucks that ran from 2010 to 2014 were known as SVT Raptors. For the second generation onwards, they were Ford Performance Raptors. And let’s be honest, any Raptor is good. But the early SVT versions, especially those with the 6.2L V8 will be sought after for years to come. Buy a good example now while you can still find them.

8. 2002 Ford Harley-Davidson F-150 SuperCrew

A Ford F-150 Lightning (not the EV version) with Harley-Davidson attitude. What is not to like here? The truck made a healthy 340 horsepower to back up that H-D swagger. These trucks have flown under the radar for a while, but we don’t see them depreciating much more at this point. Cars & Bids auctioned off this truck a couple years ago for $25,500. And the buyer could likely get at least that much for it today.

7. 1993 – 1995 F-150 SVT Lightning

Another Ford Special Vehicle Team truck makes the list. This time it is the Mustang GT with a truck bed known as the F-150 SVT Lightning. Over 11,500 of these were built, which is not rare when compared to some exotic sports cars. However, unlike exotic sports cars these are not crazy expensive to own and run, and don’t break down every other week. According to the Hagerty Valuation tool the value of these trucks in good condition has increased by nearly 140 percent over the last three years. That kind of run likely won’t continue forever, but they won’t get much cheaper either.

6. 1987 – 1990 Bigfoot Cruiser

Everyone knows about the Bigfoot monster truck, right? Well, that famous truck began as a simple 1974 F-250. Ford wanted to capitalize on the popularity of this iconic truck, so it offered a Bigfoot Cruiser package. This could be ordered on a F-150/250/350 or Ranger. Unlike the SVT Lightning we just covered, the Bigfoot Cruiser trucks are much rarer with only about 300 ever made. That rarity combined with the overall cool factor of these rigs will keep values strong. This example was recently sold by Vanguard Motor Sales.

5. 1978 - 1981 Freewheelin' Bronco

The Freewheelin’ package was offered on a number of Ford products from the late 1970s into the early 1980s. But our favorite rendition was on the Bronco. This package didn’t bring any additional power or capabilities to the Bronco, but it sure was stylish. The packages were relatively rare and thanks to folks who have that feeling of nostalgia the demand for these rigs remains strong. This is likely to continue for the foreseeable future.

4. 1966 - 1968 U13 Bronco

A Bronco Roadster? Yup. We love the modern Bronco partially because you have the freedom to remove the roof and doors. Well, the 1966 to 1968 U13 Bronco didn’t even come with a roof or doors! About 5,000 of these Bronco Roadsters were built and far fewer have survived. If you can find one today, buy it. These special vehicles don’t know the meaning of the word depreciation. The gorgeous green example you see here sold a few years ago at the Mecum Monterey auction.

3. 1971 – 1975 Baja Bronco

Another Bronco for the list, and these are even more rare as only about 650 were ever made. These were built from 1971 to 1975 to commemorate the Bill Stroppe-prepared Broncos that won the Baja 500 and Baja 1000 races. These special rigs got a heavy-duty suspension, a 302 ci V8, modified front and rear fenders, a padded roll bar and a lot more. The example that you see pictured here sold for $200K in a Bring a Trailer auction last year. A big investment for sure, but one you will not regret.

2. 1953 – 1956 F-100

Not to sound shallow but sometimes it is all about the looks. The 1953 to 1956 Ford F-100 trucks are some of the best-looking trucks that Ford has ever built. You can’t go wrong with any of these trucks, but the 1956 Stepside pictured here is a favorite. These trucks will never go out of style and will always retain value.

1. 1948 F-1

The truck that began the Ford F-Series legacy. It is not the fastest, or most refined but it is the original and there can only be one original. Like every other truck on this list, we just don’t see a scenario where these trucks get any cheaper in the coming years. Buy it, enjoy it, and hopefully pass it down to your children. But if you ever decide to sell it, you should do very well.
