10 Bold Ford Predictions for 2024
We look into the future and make ten bold predictions for Ford about what we might (or hope to) see in the 2024 model year.
Intro
The 2023 Ford model year was another exciting one. The most powerful Ford Super Duty ever began to ship to customers. We finally got the V8 we wanted in the Raptor with the new F-150 Raptor R. And much more. But now the 2024 model year is upon us. It is time to look ahead and make some bold predictions about what we might see (or hope to see) in the 2024 model year. Remember these are bold predictions, so some might be a bit more of a reach than others. But none of them are total fantasy. We are not predicting flying Fords for 2024. But to see what we are predicting for the next year, continue reading. Be sure to bookmark this as well so you can praise us or rip us this time next year.
#10 – Dealer Markups Disappear
For the last few years shoppers have had to put up with dealers adding on thousands and even tens of thousands of dollars on top of the MSRP for new Ford trucks. However, those days hopefully end in 2024. Trucks are beginning to sit on Ford dealer lots again. Interest rates are rising, and the economy is on shaky ground. The days of dealers asking for and getting thousands of dollars over sticker are numbered. (Unless you want a Raptor R.)
#9 – Bronco Raptor R Model
We were all thrilled to see the Bronco getting the Raptor treatment. Massive 37-inch tires, a sophisticated suspension system, and plenty of skid plates are just a few of the highlights on the top spec Bronco. The only thing that can be seen as a bit of a letdown is the 418 horsepower EcoBoost V6. But there is one way for Ford to rectify that. And that would be by giving us a Bronco Raptor R with the 5.2L supercharged Predator V8. We have the F-150 Raptor R already, so seeing a Bronco Raptor R is not too much of a stretch.
#8 – A new EV Pickup is Announced
Everyone is already aware of the F-150 Lightning and the fact that Ford is moving full steam ahead to develop more and more EVs. With that being the case it would surprise no one to see Ford announce a new EV pickup truck during the 2024 model year. We are probably at least a few years away from seeing an EV Super Duty. However, an all-electric Ranger or Maverick is quite possible, and we might see it revealed as soon as next year.
#7 – A Pickup Between F-150 and Super Duty is Announced
Ford may add another slice to the pickup truck pie in 2024. We recently got the compact Maverick pickup that has been massively popular. Next, Ford could be looking to add an F-200 truck model that will slot between the F-150 and the Super Duty line. Will it be a bigger and more powerful EV than the Lightning? Will it be a slightly larger or more luxurious truck than the F-150 line? That remains to be seen. But we are expecting full details during the next year.
#6 – Maverick Raptor is Announced
Ford added the Raptor line to the Ranger and the Bronco. The Maverick recently got the Tremor package, but there is room to take things bigger from there. A Maverick Raptor with the 2.7L EcoBoost from the Ranger would do well under the hood of a Maverick. From there we would expect all the normal Raptor trimmings such as a wider body, upgraded suspension, larger tires and so forth. And then you have a compact pickup that is still nimble around town but can blast across the desert as well.
#5 – F-150 Simplified Ordering and Better Supply Chain Improves Quality and Build Time
If you head over to the 2023 F-150 configurator on the Ford website, you will find that you have so many options that your head will spin. And while it is nice to have that level of customization, that is not ideal for the folks building these trucks. With the reveal of the 2024 F-150, Ford has drastically reduced the number of overall configurations available. More options are grouped into packages for 2024. This should streamline the build process and result in improved quality. Combined with an improved supply chain situation we predict that the 2024 F-150 trucks will get to customer hands faster and be of better quality when they get there.
#4 – F-Series Extends Best-Selling Streak
This is probably the least bold of all of our bold predictions. If something happens once it is an occurrence. If something happens several times, it is a trend. But when something happens 46 times in a row it is practically a mathematical certainty. The Ford F-Series has been the best-selling truck in America 46 years in a row. We predict that Ford will announce in early 2024 that the F-Series was once again the best-selling truck to make it 47 years straight.
#3 – F-150 Lightning Tremor Package
The F-150 Lightning is the one Ford truck that doesn’t yet have a rugged off-road package. We predict that Ford will address that in 2024 with the Tremor package. Like the other Ford trucks that offer the Tremor package we expect the Lightning to come with larger wheels, and more aggressive tires, off-road suspension upgrades, and some unique styling touches. Ford recently teased the Mach-E Rally so it will not be unexpected to see them give some off-road chops to their all-electric pickup.
#2 – Ford Excursion Returns
Do you remember the Ford Excursion? It was a massive SUV that environmentalists loved to hate, and owners loved to love. The Excursion has not been in production since 2005. The Expedition MAX is the current big SUV from Ford. But maybe it is time for them to bring back the Excursion model. We think that they will. Only this time it will be an EV. Will it happen? Time will tell.
#1 – Ford Offers Air Suspension on Super Duty
One of the most popular aftermarket upgrades for a Ford Super Duty is an air suspension setup. For 2023 Ford gave us an all-new Super Duty but there is still no sign of a factory air suspension. That is despite the fact that it is not difficult to build a Super Duty that costs more than $100K. Ford is leaving money on the table by not offering a factory air suspension setup. Instead, all that money is flowing to third parties. In 2024 Ford finally realizes that they should be taking a bite of that pie. So, for a couple thousand dollars Ford will put an air suspension system in your Super Duty. At least that is our prediction.
