Crazy Idea

The idea for this crazy build was created around the desire to go fast. The owner of the 1000-horsepower F1, John Arrendale had been dreaming up a super truck project for a while. He grew up with a love for fast cars. And when he was old enough to drive, his favorite pastime became carving through the twisty mountain roads around his home in Georgia. And that passion for high-speed adventures continued to grow.

Nostalgic Connection

John's fondness for the truck stems from the fact that his grandfather had owned one. That's why he decided to choose the pickup as the basis for the build. Amazingly, he didn't have to look too far to find a donor. Someone in his hometown owned 15 of them, all in varying shapes and conditions. John purchased a few to have spare parts available for the job.

Mason's Hot Rods

And the job was entrusted to Allen Mason of Mason's Hot Rods in Spartanburg, South Carolina. The initial meeting between the two men was simple. John wanted to convey his need to go fast, and Allen had a practically unlimited budget to make it happen. And the folks at Mason's went to work, with the first order of business being the chassis. The objective was 1,000 horsepower, so the frame, the suspension, the brakes, and the drivetrain had to be set up to be able to handle the output.

Supercharged Shelby GT500 V8

When everything was set up there, it was time to turn the attention onto the power plant. Under the hood of this monster resides a thoroughly reworked Shelby GT500 V8 mill with a 3.6-liter supercharger producing a massive 28 pounds of boost. To achieve the mind-boggling power numbers that John required, Mason's team had to think up some creative solutions. Cooling is a crucial factor when trying to reach big horsepower, and the truck's intercooler is equipped with a 5-gallon reservoir that is located behind the cab.

Plush Interior

With the body ready to go, the next area to work on was the interior. And although the simplified exterior and the gnarly power output might suggest this would be a bare-bones cabin, John wanted to make sure his truck is equipped with as many modern creature comforts as possible. The seats are from the GT500, but with F-1000 logos embroidered on the back rest.

Aerodynamic

In addition to big power, going fast also requires good aerodynamics. And that's not an area where Ford trucks (old or new) are known to thrive. So a lot of thought and effort had to go into making sure the car can cut through the atmosphere as easily as possible. The smoothed-out surfaces, the addition of a front splitter, and tonneau cover all lend a hand in this department. They also give the truck its sleek and beautifully crafted look.
