5.8 cylinderhead upgrade revisited

OK folks, it is official, after being on hold for 20 minutes with the CARB tech people, I have learned that if the cylinder heads do not have the thermactor air injection passages, you cannot use the exhaust manifolds with the external tubing. It is considered unlawful. (even though the fix is a good one and works) Politics at its best.

I have also learned that the earlier heads do not have enough meat on them to have the thermactor air passage drilled through them as you may eventually hit the water jacket. Which is too bad because I payed some bucks to have them professionally ported, polished, coated and flowbenched.

I just got off the phone with Summitracing and will have a set of Edelbrock
performer aluminum heads with the 1.90/1.60 valves, 60cc comb chambers and 7/16's rocker studs expedited to my mom's by Friday. These will get a nice set of comp pro mag 1.6 chromoly roller rockers to smooth things out a bit along with the top of the line trickflow hardened pushrods

So...after the edelbrocks get put on, I will have the Bronco dialed in and dynoed and A/F ratios printed out for the Diablo chip match up. (details to follow)

Intake has been portmatched and coated with heat disp coating bottom has been coated with thermal barrier coating.

I will also order a bassani Y pipe and have it thermal barrier coated by Microcoat in Santa Rosa, CA.(details to follow)

anybody take a guess at what the dyno will say? Any other recommendations?

cam is as follows:

206/215 duration @ .50" with 112 LSA
.470/.470 lift

stock injectors, new fuel psi reg, unported edelbrock performer heads and portmatched stock intake.

Ignition is a stock duraspark dizzy and the MSD6A control box with ford racing 9mm wires and NGK irridium plugs.

Diablo chip to be made to match the added air the heads, intake and cam provide. (the changes are so mild that it negates the need for larger injectors)

I am hoping for 250hp and at least 360ft lbs of torque.

with aluminum head if you dont make at least a horse power per cubic inch something wis wrong some where, with cam, and heads your probly gona need to go to 24lb/hr injectors with a calibrated mas air. and with everthing dialed in it should make 350-380HP easy mabe a little better!

I agree with DW because a stock 5.8 makes 210hp and 310lb of torque. and with your combo your going to see a pretty big increase in power. going to the 24lb injectors would be a good choice i think to.

later

My guess would be 275-325 Hp. let me know of the outcome, I'm
building my 95 Bronco to be an Impala SS Killer.
