It looks interesting. I can't quite say it looked good. It goes like stink though. I was on I-44 doing 85 (shhhh don't tell the highway patrol) and that truck passed me like I was standing still. I saw it coming up and as it passed all I saw was the SS badge on the door. I'm gonna go to the Chevy site and dig up some specs. I hope it will be competetive against the Lightning. Ford needs the competition so they can justify boosting the performance of the L. These are good times to have money.
That's nuthin'....I saw 40 of them...in ONE place at ONE time.
The driver introduction at the NASCAR race last weekend featured all the drivers riding around the track in the back of a black Silverado SS.
Bad news is, the SS WILL NOT scoot. They are not souped-up super trucks like the Lightning or Ram Viper. The SS is simply a Silverado with all-wheel drive and some nice body accents. A lightning will still smoke one on the road (unless it's snowing, then I guess the SS all-wheel drive would take over).
I'm not impressed with them at all. Maybe someone on here with more experience with them can tell us a little more.
If your talking about the Chevy's at the Martinsville race last weekend.. Those werent the ss, The ss was out in the SOuvenier Area.. and i think It is one Hot looking truck.. with 345 HP and all wheel drive.. Looks and sounds cool.. BUT it doesnt have the sheer numbers to compete with the lightning, but I think it looks better!

No, I was talking about the race at Talladega Superspeedway a couple weeks ago. That is where I saw all of them.
The all-wheel drive is nice, and the 345 HP is not impressive but is good enough to make the truck fun to drive. The SS would be a better all-purpose truck, though the Lightning would be a faster truck.
dude..we just got a ss and 345 horse power may not sound liek much...and compared to some hipo vehicles it isnt...but im tellin you when you stop it and the AWD grabs it feel like a damn 700 drag car with slicks....and yes a lightning can beat it...i raced on at the stop light the first time he spun severly and i was watin for him at the nest light at. at that light he used a little less foot and walked away from me after we both hit around 35....but still throw a 'charger on it and then lets see what the lightnin has...and think to that the ss is extended cab..the L is single..plus the AWD makes weight....i dont know exact weights right now but im pretty sure the SS is wuite a bit heavier...hell maybe ford and chevy will get in to a big competition and well have a L with 550 HPand awd....wouldnt that be nice..later
From what I gather at some of the GM truck sites, the first year SS is just a test run for buyer interest. The next couple of years it will go through a series of engine upgrades including a supercharger. The current engine is the same 6.0L in the Caddy Escalade.
The Jan/Feb 03 Truck Trend has an article on the production-planned '03 1/2 Caddy Escalade with a V12. If GM has dc'ed the plans to market this I haven't heard about it. It will have a Northstar 7.5L V12 that's "detuned" to 500hp. The same motor will show up in the Escalade EXT (the Avalanche version) and you want to believe the rumors it will eventually get stuffed into the Silverado SS as well. The Cadillac EXT may be better competetion for the Lightning sooner than the Silverado SS!
This engine was designed for the Cadillac Cien and can be bumped up to 750hp. Coming soon to a GM truck in your neighborhood!!
man that would be awesome. The ss witha super charger i mean. I tell you somethin else that would be awesome....that new 1000 hp engine that cadillac has. put it in something...ss lightning who cares. ill buy either one for a grand worth of hp lol...later
My bet is they wont release it. Insurance wont allow it. They will eventually just refuse to insure anything over a certain number of HP, so we'll be back to square one.
Duh. Here I thought the whole time this thread was about the Silverado SS! Sorry for my last post about the Escalade engines-I really doubt the 500hp V12 will make it into the SS pictures above.
