Well might as well put my say in. I got the 5.8 e40d XLT super cab with dana 44's twin i-beam. Not sure it's all that rare. According to Autozone only 30% of all trucks made for 96 had the 351w. 5.0 and the 4.6? I believe are the most common. I do know that my color is rare. That metallic baby blue.

How "rare" is your truck...?

Why, my truck is absolutely one of a kind simply because it is mine!

Mine is a pretty run-of-the-mill truck, but a great example of a top-of-the-line F150 for 1988: top trim level, 5.0L, automatic, four wheel drive, argent wheels, combination two-tone, cloth interior, etc. The only things it's missing are things I can do without: captain's chairs and tow mirrors.

In the future, when I have my own house (and a shed), I'm going to try searching for a 1988 F150 Custom: 4.9L, standard black mirrors, standard hub caps, no two-tone, vinyl bench seat, no auxiliary tank, radio delete, the works! It would be great to show the contrast between the two ends of the F150 spectrum!

i'm not hip on the truck lingo but ill try

1988 f250 351 RCLB 4x4 zf5. manual hubs up front and what i believe to be the big dog rear dif. it is red/red, no (or very few) options best i can tell. manual windows and locks. no cruise or tilt wheel. vinyl everything, bench seat. it does have ac and a sliding rear window. it had 2 gas tanks but one has been deleted.

edit: i'd guess they only made 35,000 trucks like mine haha

Yours seems especially interesting. It seems to have all the standard options found on a Custom like yours, with the exception of a rub strip on the bumper, but has what appears to be full bright trim (chrome and stainless steel) that I believe would only be found on the higher trim levels. Either yours has replaced headlights and added wheel well trim; or it was ordered from the factory by one weird person!

it's an old truck. there's no telling what has been added. the headlights are old and crusty looking on the inside. everything looks original and no new parts stand out. can options etc be decoded from the vin?
