No Start, No Crank. Does this sound right?

1994 Club Wagon 351W 5.8, E3OD 255,xxx miles

About 4 months ago I installed a new starter.

I have this intermittent no start where I just get some rapid clicking when turning the key, I remove the negative battery cable and hook it right back up then van starter turns over, van starts and Im on my way.

Last time It happened I shorted out the ignition solenoid (the one mounted by the radiator in front) and just got clicks, then disconnected the battery, hooked it back up shorted out the solenoid again and it turns over.

This tells me that the starter is going out, or more accuratly the solenoid on the starter is going out.

Does that sound right?

Sounds like one of the battery cables is no good
Most likely the one you have been disconnecting and re coonnecting
Sometimes the wire to lead interface inside the cable gets weak
Depending on which motor and starter you have, you could use jumper cables to bypass the battery cable and diagnose it properly
