Instrument Cluster/HVAC Back Lighting Failure
I bought a 2003 F-250 with the 5.4 from a buddy recently. I decided to upgrade to a radio with CarPlay so when I’m driving to clinical sites all over rural America, I can do so with navigation. Afterwards (though not immediately after) I noticed the backlighting for the instrument cluster and HVAC dials went out.
Here’s what I’ve ruled out:
- Bulbs (tested with multimeter)
- Dimmer (replaced with one from salvage yard)
- Stereo/wiring harness (replaced old stereo as a test)
- Fuses 4, 11, 12, 35, 41, 306 (tested with multimeter and/or replaced with new ones)
At this point, I’m almost entirely at a loss. Somehow the cluster is getting power but not to the bulbs. Any ideas?

I’m attempting to test the voltage difference at the lt blue/red wire and ground. Is it as simple as replacing it if something is amiss? I’m pretty new at this
