c6 in a 1974 ford truck low hump

My 79 2 wheel drive F350 has the low hump and it came with a 460 and a C6. I always thought that the high hump was only needed with a factory 4 speed. I changed out the C6 for an E4OD some years ago and that transmission also fits but it is very close to the floor on top of the case.
