There's going to be a huge gap in terms of HP/torque between a Corvette application and a HD truck application. Having said that, I'm thinking Chevy's new engine platform maybe setting the bar higher on their next gen trucks.
Also on a side note the whole 1/2 ton pickup industry needs to evaluate their transmission tuning and valvebodies. Complete pain in the *** to drive any lighter duty gas vehicles. Plus they eat themselves. Complete disaster I am dealing with it now.
more competition is always welcome. It's gotta be really good for me to buy a GM but Ford has been sitting on the v8 half ton game too still for far too long.

When Ford was in love with the Lightning and their EV division and laying off their ICE engineers, I think the 5.0 coyote days were numbered for the F150. Having said that, I commend GM for staying with a V8 powertrain as their primary power for their .5 ton trucks.

Had things gone the other way at end of 24, the Coyote was likely dead, all the companies were doing whatever they could to keep receiving ongoing EV subsidies.

This engine is not going in the Silverado HD anyway, it’s for the 1500. HD line will retain the current iron block L8T. They aren’t putting a high compression aluminum car motor in an HD.
5.0 needs bigger bores, but ford will never do it. A 5.5 to 5.7 DOHC would absolutely cannibalize 3.5 EcoBoost sales. I hear all the time from people if Ford offered a more grunty V8 in the half ton like GM they’d buy it. The 5.0 makes a lot of torque given the cubic inches yes, but it needs more revs than the 2-valves.

They missed an opportunity not putting the 6.8L v8 in the 1/2 tons, it's more compact being OHV and only weighs 70 or so pounds more than the Coyote, exact figures for the 6.8 is kind of elusive to find. If they tuned it down just a bit there is a good chance the current iteration of 10R80 could handle the power in a 1/2 ton.

Not a bad idea there. They probably would change it to aluminum block and up compression in a half ton so the weight would be OK maybe even lighter than Coyote. Consumer grade motors in the half tons don’t have to pass the duty cycle testing our Super Duty engines do, they can soup them up more as they have less demanding lives while also taking some weight out of the block.

I hear the L8T will continue in thewir HD's for a while, but a new HD is coming in 2029 and there are rumors it may have a new gasser.
Imagine if Ford put the Predator in the F150 to answer GM's 5.7. 760HP, 625 TQ. Ford would need the Powerstroke transmission in order to tame that power.
Would make for an interesting hold my beer competition.
