96 powestroke charging issue

My problem started 2 weeks ago. Voltmeter in cab shows low voltage. Idiot light works correctly. Warrantied a lifetime alternator that's been in this truck 15years. 2 alternators later I still have no charging. At the alternator plug I have continuous 12v from battery on 1 plug. The plug from the key sends 12v when the key is on. The large wire going to the stud on the back shows 12 volts. I cleaned all grounds including the main ground stud on the block. I added a ground wire to the back of the alternator directly to the battery. Nothing. I saw a quick blurb in a pic pointing at the glow plug relay. So I attached a light to the power side of the glow plugs. I ran the truck and warmed it up. The glow plugs stayed on the entire time. So i disconnected the relay. Still no charging. I picked the brain of a diesel mechanic I know. He suggested disconnecting the wire from the stud on the back of the alternator and running. I got 24 volts. So then he had me run a wire directly from the stud to the positive on the battery. 13,8 volts! OK so now what am I looking for? Does the ecm control charging on this truck? That's the question he posed to me. Any suggestions would be great
