Long time lurker, first time poster.
Bought the truck 30 years ago. Built a 351W. Got it running reliably. Then life happened... Now is the time to jump back in. I'm planning on going at it in stages.
First thing is the front suspension. I'm looking at the various Mustang II kits.
Maybe an ignorant question, but what does 2" drop spindles mean? 2" drop from a stock Mustang II spindle? 2" drop from... Assuming the same diameter tire, where would that put me from the stock suspension? Coil-overs have some adjustability, but not a lot... I don't want to weld in a cross member and then find out its sitting too low/high. Are there any references out there that can help plan this out?
You'll need to check the manufacturer of the Mustang II suspension. They should be able to tell you the drop from stock of their units. After that if it's not low enough for you the drop spindles will get 2" MORE drop. I'd suggest not buying or installing drop spindles. Just my 2¢ worth.
Talk to SPEEDWAY MOTORS--they got a great kit with tubular a- arms I used---I never use 2 '' drop spindeles it gets way to LOW--- USE STOCK SPINDELS AND GET THE CORRECT COIL SPRING WEIGHT-- correct leaf spring kit you will be happy-- GOOD LUCK
I used a m2 with 2" drop and I ended up with about 8" from the bottom of the front bumper to ground.
I love the stance and would go with the 2" drop if I was doing it over but its very low and you have to be carefull, I have drug the front x member several times.
I have drug the front bumper a few times on ramps but not a big deal the bumper can take it, not like dragging the front spoiler off a mustang
If I need to go somewhere that is a problem I take my F250
I got mine from total cost involved and I told them what engine I was using and they sized the front coils perfectly
I know all about life getting in the way, My truck was dissembled for over 40 years
Is that a total cost involved rear spring kit?
I used one of those and did not c notch the frame and thought it would be ok but when traveling with luggage coolers ect the truck bottomed out all the time. I ended up using small 750 lb air bags to adjust for loading
@lshort Thanks. What size tires are you running? Right now, mine with 205/75/R15 (which will be upgraded) has about 11 1/2" below the front bumper. However, it has some rake to it (probably due to the helpers in the back - they also have to go).
