How many CAN bus modules?

There are 20+ modules in newer Ford trucks. Almost everything is controlled over a network (high speed, medium speed or LIN). Dig into the forum stickies for Forscan .You must have a good scan tool to do almost any work on theses vehicles besides changing oil and air filter. Forscan is free and Autel makes good products but you need to spend about $400 for a full service tool.

Forscan is the go-to for PC (not Apple) users and Ford only use. Requires an adapter ($50 approx). Owners of other manufacturers can use Autel or others. Autel MK808 isn't repair shop quality ($2000+) but allows for garage mechanic level diagnosis and service functions.
All scan tools have a learning curve and expect to spend hours watching YouTube to learn how to use them. Forscan is the most "difficult" to learn because it is not as intuitive as commercial tools, but it is as powerful as a $2k tool.
