Major issue with the vacuum system on my 6.6 Liter V8, 400 cui | F-250 1981
I found my way here by searching for keywords like "vacuum", "1981 F-250", "400 CUI" and similar terms.
I live in northern Germany and had no idea where else to turn for help other than a forum like this.
A while back, I pulled the engine out of my 1981 Ford F-250 — it's the 6.6L V8.
I had a major issue with one of the head gaskets, so my plan was to rebuild it as far as necessary.
To my surprise, there wasn't much more to replace beyond the head gasket itself and the other gaskets that came with the kit I ordered.
The engine was mounted on a stand in a workshop where I was employed full-time at the time. Unfortunately,
a coworker came along one day and ripped all my vacuum hoses off — and to this day I have no idea why.
Whether he was angry at me, just didn't like me, or something else entirely — I honestly don't know. I think he knew exactly what he was doing.
That was roughly two years ago now, and the engine is still sitting in the truck without the vacuum system reconnected,
because I haven't been able to find any clear pictures or documentation online that would have helped me sort it out.
The reason I really need to get this truck running again soon is that my girlfriend and I are planning to get married next year and use it as our wedding car.
There's still quite a bit left to do, but getting the engine back up and running is the first thing on the list.
If needed, I can send pictures of anything that might help — the engine, the vacuum hoses, whatever you need. For now,
I think it would be a good start if someone could explain what each part looks like and what it's called.
The original vacuum schematic sticker is still on the valve cover, so at least that's something to work with — but I still don't know what each component in the vacuum system actually looks like in real life.
Thank you all very much! I hope there's someone out there who can help me get my truck back on the road!
EDIT:
the truck has no AC (!) and no airpump i think so far

In 81 there shouldn't have been many vacuum accessories. I'd start by ensuring your distributor is hooked up to the OE vacuum source. Whether that's manifold or ported vacuum should be on the valve cover sticker. Other than that you'd want manifold vacuum going to the modulator on your transmission (if it's a C6). Plus you'd need vacuum for your EGR valve and the Thermac door on the air cleaner (apparently
called this TAC).Hopefully the sticker on your valve cover is legible. It's always a good idea to have a manual for your classic vehicle. Here's an online supplier I've ordered from before.

Traditionally, scanned copies of automotive service manuals can loose fidelity in critical illustrations. But it might be preferred over ordering an original copy and waiting for it to ship. FWIW, I had a digital copy of the service manual for the 96 Oldsmobile 98 I had. It was identical to the paper copy I had.
BTW, congratulations on your upcoming wedding.

I put this link on the other one too...
I have the pictures on my computer at home. I'll try to upload them later tonight. I'll circle everything I have questions about.
The engine is installed, and I believe it has a C6 attached to it.
On the valve cover I still have the wiring diagram sticker, and on the driver's side window there's still the emissions control sticker — still readable, actually — as well as the vehicle information label, also on the driver's side.
I'll send pictures of the components and all the connections I have questions about.
The only things I could identify with confidence right away were the brake booster and the "MAN FOLD" (or INT) port — that single threaded fitting on top of the intake manifold, on the right side facing forward.
All the other connections are just guesses at this point, so I'd really rather get your help on those — and I'm already incredibly grateful for it!
A book from Olds64's link sounds like a great idea too — unfortunately I don't think direct shipping to Germany is available from that site, if I'm reading it correctly. I'll see how far I get with your help first.
Pictures are coming your way! :-)
