1985 F250 6.9 IDI no power in cab after battery was hooked up backwards
As stated the above truck, the batteries were hooked up backwards as someone else I checked the starter solenoid and it tested at 26 oms that seemed kinda high so I’m going to replace that. Should I replace the fuse of a link while I’m in there or should I just replace the solenoid and try with the same old link the link did not break in half and it still seems pretty firm. It doesn’t seem stretchy and if that doesn’t fix my problem where should I go from there? Thank you guys for the help. sorry I’ve been gone so long long story short I learned a lot finally getting settled and getting everything done again. I hope you guys are welcome back. Thank you for the help.
I would suspect fuseable links before I would replace the solenoid as it would have nothing to do with the no power in the cab issue. Now the connections on the battery cable side might be bad and that could stop power to cab but that would be a connection issue and not really a solenoid issue. Seems like you have a volt meter so why not check voltages and see where you are loosing it at. I would guess a fuseable link feeds the alternator so it probably went, would have nothing to do with power to cab, it just protects the wiring to the alternator. I would think there is one protecting the main power feed to the fuses although it has been 20 years since I had a truck that old and never had your issue so never had to chase down that sort of issue. A wiring diagram would be the first thing I would find to help sort out your issues.
Thank you both for your replies. Sorry it took me a little bit. I’m dealing with selling some land and I got strapped with closing. I will gladly check that all out. I think it’s supposed to rain today and tomorrow so soon as I get the chance I’ll do that. Thanks again
