Hey all — working on a custom instrument cluster install in my van and need some data from a stock vehicle. If you have a 2008-2010 F-250, F-350, or E-Series van and a FORScan adapter.
Here's what to do:
Connect FORScan to your truck/van with the key in the RUN position or engine running
When FORScan scans the modules, select SJB (Smart Junction Box)
Go to the Parameters or PIDs list for the SJB
Look for anything related to panel lamps, dimming, ILC, or instrument lighting
While watching that parameter in FORScan, slowly turn your dash dimmer **** from minimum to maximum brightness
Tell me the exact parameter name and the raw hex values at minimum and maximum dimmer positions (there's usually a toggle in FORScan to show raw hex — turn that on if you can)
Bonus points if you're comfortable with FORScan's CAN bus monitor/trace function — run a trace on the MS-CAN bus (medium speed, 125kbps) while turning the dimmer **** and watch for any message whose data changes in sync with the ****. Tell me that message ID and what the data looks like at min vs max brightness.
I'm trying to replicate the SJB's dimming signal in a standalone CAN translator box so the cluster backlight can be controlled without the stock SJB present. The actual data values are all I need — won't take long if you have the hardware. Thanks!
I have a 2010. I'll try this but the '09 & '10 models have less access to certain parameters than '11 and up.
It may take a couple days and if I haven't responded in a week kick a reminder over to me. I just acquired a non running jeep and that's all I'm thinking about currently. Sometimes I forget back burner items.
