Gibbs oil as water shield and rust prevention
Gibbs oil will prevent any further rusting even when left out in the weather for an extended period of time.
Last summer I sprayed my truck down top to bottom with it. It goes on wet obviously but after a few days it goes to a perfectly dry finish. You can wipe your hand on it there will be no oil residue at all. Whatever the carrier is evaporates off. It leaves a protective barrier that repels water and prevents rust. I also use it on my guns including the wood stock.
I have only been able to find it online. 1/2 a can covered my entire truck.
I had to leave it out in the rain for the last few days and thought I would post some pics. Water beads like it has been waxed and again when it is dry you can't tell anything is on it and there is zero residue. It lasts at least six months, even constantly exposed to the elements. It really is a miracle product and if you want to mantain a patina it completely beats a clear coat which changes the look and way better than lindseed oil which leaves an oily and sometimes sticky finish. Way cheaper than the specialty products sold to maintain the Patina.
Try it, you won't regret it.
Beading up like it was waxed. NOTE: you can see bare metal along with the rust. This is my hood and it sat out in the elements over the fall, winter and spring before I mounted it and it never rusted where there was bare metal.
Beading up right over the rust even in the areas with significant surface rust.

I will be taking it out a little later today and will get some close up pictures that "live" but here is what it looked like last year a few days after it was sprayed down. It looks completely dry, you would have no idea anything was sprayed on it. Tonight I will post the close ups.
Did the wrap around rear bumper come from the factory?

The bumper is a Farmer's special. All the metal looks like it was cut with a torch and hand welded. I think it is 1/4" and 3/8" steel. I have never measured it. It is very functional!

I saw your post in this other thread. I would suggest that it has not washed off and it continues to protect the metal. In may not be beading, but it is still protecting from my experience.
Left my hood out all winter in the snow and rain and no rust. Go to post #140 in my build thread and you will see a picture of the bare metal on the hood after sitting out for 4 months which was sprayed with Gibbs oil.
I remain convinced you are protected for a solid 4 months or more. Take a look at the areas you sprayed and see if they are getting any rustier.
