I didn’t see this recall in the News section, only one for rear view cameras. Has anyone else received this recall notice from Ford? Seems that our steering columns may have been made from inferior steel, or engineered to be too weak. Whatever the reason, Ford says the steering column could separate while driving, causing loss of control, possible injury, or a crash. Ya, think? However, they’re not recommending we stop driving our trucks, because they don’t yet have the parts to repair this dangerous defect. What? Just don’t worry about your upcoming 1,200 mile trip to Florida on I-95. We’ll have the parts to fix your steering column in Quarter 1 of 2026…that could be by March. Maybe I should have the Mrs. drive the truck to Florida, and get myself a ticket on one of those Boeing jets with the auto opening exit doors. Who has a better chance of making the trip safely?
I haven't received the recall notice, but I had it happen. 2020 350 drw turning into a gas station felt something pop. I could pull the column almost out. Ford replaced it under extended warranty.
I got one of the notices. This sounds like a very serious SAFETY ISSUE! Maybe we should start a class action safety lawsuit? And have ford charged thousand of dollars a day till they get them fixed! Hey NTHSB why aren’t you jumping all over FORD about this? A steering safety issue? This need to be done right away, imaging driving down the freeway with no steering control.! I guess illegals need more attention!
Putting safety issues anywhere but first in line just shows how much the consumer ranks!

With the thousands of parts supplied by outside vendors (and, in other countries to boot) it's gotta be a total PIA for manufacturers to catch parts not made to strict specifications.
Luckily, this was an issue that has been caught and identified. I'm sure FoMoCo is making this a priority, as wrongful death lawsuits can bankrupt them, so there's a huge incentive to get this issue corrected I'm sure. Not to mention any bad press that would effectively stop folks from buying their products. So, I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt. This stuff happens probably more than anyone thinks, but just not public knowledge. Or, it's caught before it becomes an issue and corrected prior to delivery.
I just hope it was a small batch of sub-par parts and not hundreds of thousands of trucks. Otherwise, it would take a long time to get all the necessary replacements manufactured and tested before mine eventually gets addressed...

We're you still able to drive it? Curious if the steering wheel just pulls out easily or if something suddenly separates completely and you lose complete control of steering. I did get the recall so I am concerned exactly what the issue is. Seems like they would recommend not driving them at all until fixed but they haven't done that.
Barely. I drove it to the Ford dealer. I could move the steering wheel in any direction about 3 inches. I could pull the steering wheel out about 4 inches. I was afraid to pull farther as I thought I was going to pull it completely out of the column.

how many miles did you have on it when it happened?
Wow, to have that shaft break at 35K definitely points to a defective part, for sure... Mine has 102K on it, and no issues to this point (although I would think that if mine was defective it would've crapped out long before now).
I received a notice highlighting the same issue, but I could have sworn the one I received said no remedy was available. I’ll have to find it and check, it’s possible that mine is an older version. Seems crazy that Ford would release a notice like this regarding a critical component, and fail to have parts available to fix this. Seems like they are taking on HUGE liability every day that consumers have to wait for the parts.
