I happen to have a 96 F250 Dana 60 on my stands right now for a different project. I also happen to have a 1973 F250 (4x4 though so keep that in mind) - but I've done several axle swaps into different vehicles over the years.
1) any axle can be swapped just depends on how much work and money you want to spend. If you're good with welding and grinding this is all a cake walk if you don't need to narrow or lengthen tubes.
2) check the WMS to WMS this 96 F250 D60 I have is incredibly narrow, perfect for the other application I need it for but I understand they can vary a lot. This one is (IIRC) 65" something like that but depending on the options for the truck it can be wider.
3) You'll have to replace the perches, the springs in 96 are for a spring that is quite a bit wider than the springs in my 73 (mine's a 4x4 but).
4) you may need to move the perches in or out anyway, but if you're changing em anyway... this is a non-issue.
5) you'll also need to confirm pinion angle, which again will necessitate adjusting the perch position (or use shims but if you have to swap em anyway, get it as close as you can without shims)
5) shock mounts may need to be changed, again my 73 is a 4x4 so yours may be different but it's an easy thing to change with a welder and grinder. You can buy universal weld on lower brackets for pretty cheap.
Good luck!
Edit: If you just want to swap the ring & pinion, I'm a little less clear on any differences through the years there
