I purchased a rough but mostly complete 1968 Highboy. It is missing the transfer case shifter and linkage. I've attached some pictures of what I have right now. It is a Borg Warner transmission, and there's a wooden dowel in what appears to be the hole for the speedometer cable. So, I'm assuming that the transmission what replaced with a 2wd transmission at some point and the shifter linkage was left off.
I'm thinking that this should have originally came with a NP435, right?
Also then, what linkages will work with this divorced transfer case? Is the last image what I'm going to need to change the tailpiece out? I do have another NP435 2wd transmission. Are the 73-77's the same as 67-72? Thanks for any help you all can give me, or if anyone has any parts. Very familiar with the 67-72 trucks, but this is my first highboy.
You are screwed on the T-18 as they were only 2wd used with no mounting bosses for a TC shifter. The 78+ got T-18's but with married 205 TC. You are going to have to go with a divorced NP 435 4wd TC case unless you can fabricate a shifter mount for the T-18. Divorced D24/NP 205's were used with last use in 76 in Highboys only. Or cobble a cable shifter.
It's still got the Dana 24 transfer case, hooked up. I have another NP435 2wd. Does the picture of the tailhousing I posted look like it will work? It's listed for a 73-77 highboy. I don't think there would be a difference but just wanted to make sure. Different bends on the shifter linkage maybe?
I don't know the spline count for a 2wd 435 rear shaft. Torque King 4x4 lists the 4wd shaft having a 31 spline output for the joint. What does your 2wd shaft have? https://torqueking.com/category/outp...-5-ford-np435/
The 2wd and the 4wd 435 seem to have the same rear tail shaft housing bolt pattern so it should bolt up. What is the Engineering ID # on the housing (the cast #'s)? It could tell us if it was for a Dana 24 or a 205 divorced TC? https://www.novak-adapt.com/knowledg.../manual/np435/
They guy with it for sale says it's from a mid 70's 250 with a divorced 205 transfer case.
Is the rod that connects this and goes to the transfer case something that could by fabricated?
On my 72 f250 4x4, a PO swapped a T18 into it. They had rigged up a bracket to carry the shifter. Of course I didnt know until taking the truck apart. The T18 was good so I just built a new bracket to carry the shifter. These were the only pics I could find looking back and couldnt find one showing the front of the transfer case.

Browski- how can I get a bracket like this for my highboy? C6 Transmission
The shifter itself was with the truck. A PO had swapped a T18 in it and rigged up a bracket to carry the shifter. I just made another one a little more solid for it.
KK, your C-6 looks to be a 2wd car/truck version with a tail shaft housing that doesn't have the bosses for mounting a TC shifter. F-250's 4wd's with a C-6 and divorced TC were only from 73-76. You are going to have to design and build your own mount when not using a 4wd C-6.
where does this bracket that you made attach? Any more details on what or how you did this? I am in this exact boat!

did you drill all the way through the case? Did you drill your holes at an angle or are the straight vertices? I am in the same boat trying to figure out how to get this shifter attached!
