Power Running Boards on Chrome Package

The "Build and Price" website shows an "Available Package Variation" on the chrome package. It shows that the Power running boards replace the standard boards. I just don't know what it means.

The chrome package doesn't make a lot of sense for a person ordering a dually, as the 2 biggest price tag options, don't apply to a dually. The chrome wheels don't apply, and the running boards come standard with a dually. Now, if this statement meant that ordering a chrome package on a truck that already includes running boards, would get you an upgrade to power boards, that would make sense. But when I added the chrome package to my build (dually) it didn't say power running boards were included.

So no chrome package on my dually, just doesn't make sense to still pay over $1200 and not really gain anything......

I was hoping to get the Chrome package but keep the non-powered fixed Running Boards. Wont do it. Fixed look better to me actually.

Fixed ones have protected the doors more than once on my steep driveway when its icy and the snowbanks are frozen solid and I slide against the bank.

Fast and easy to swap out a fixed one if it bends a little. Happened once. Easier than fixing a door panel.

Lord knows what happens to the deployable ones both damage and cost-wise even retracted when I slide into a frozen snow bank…never mind the doors.

Tough problems to complain about…getting powered running boards I dont want…. Haha

The point of my post above was that when selecting the chrome package, it keeps the fixed running boards. so I think you would be happy. If it selected the power boards, later in the selections, the power boards should say "included" but they don't.

The fact that Ford is now allowing the power running board option in combination with the chrome package is a good thing. They have been too restrictive with certain option combinations in the past. I do see what you are saying though. At least there should be a price offset (credit) when selecting the power running with that chrome package, since the fixed chrome running boards have some value on the package price.

The power running boards are a higher priced option than the fixed running boards, so it makes sense why it's not a no cost change to the chrome package.

Sounds like something to iron out with the dealer on the order sheet.

Now that you say that....I should have clarified. I also have the Ultimate Pkg that has the Powered ones. I suppose I could swap them after I get it and sell the Powered...

I built mine with the Lariat Ultimate package (but not the chrome package). I really hate that the Ultimate package has the power running boards. I live on a dirt road, and these are known to be trouble. It's too bad there isn't an option to have the fixed running boards.

Agreed. The fixed chrome boards look great besides being less fragile and far less costly to replace. The power make it look like something is missing to me.

Now if Ford could just make a chrome fixed that doesnt bubble and rust so soon….but when I creased on on a frozen snowbank….I grabbed a second hand one for $100 and fixed it easily. That isnt happening with the powered.

....so....went in to ask my dealer about this today. The salesman wasn't sure, so we'll ask the guy who does the actual ordering on Friday. As mentioned above, sure does seem some credit should be due when the truck already has running boards....

You can lock the power running boards in the down position.

That may be a possibility.

Having never even looked at power boards never mind used them so I will try them for a month and see what I think. We get a lot of snow here and I drive north towing into deeper snow in Maine and as far as northern Quebec snowmobiling all winter. Doesnt feel like power boards is a good fit for me right now.

While parked, yes, but once you hit about 3 mph they retract. Not sure why anyone would want them down while driving anyway.

I know this is old BUT what’s your thoughts on the power running boards now that you’ve had some time with them?

Had them on my 16 F150. I do not miss them. Even with the Ford splash guards, snow or driving on wet grave they occasionally get stuck down. I live in Missouri so not a lot of snow and the stock motors lasted about eight years before I had to replace them.
