Had a recent icm module go south . Replaced with o Reilly black standard brand. The one I pulled was grey . But didn’t look if it was OEM mototcraft . Been having some start issues especially when really cold. But has a mind of if it’s own on start up some times it’s bam and sometimes gets stupid and cranks a bit to fire. Pulled codes p1351 and p1359. And they will not erase with code reader. Both leaning towards icm. Was told aftermarket icm can be a pain in the *** and cause these codes and issues. Many say OEM only way to go. Leaves me to this . Oem part numbers Black dy 1077 or grey Dy 1075. Both shown in multiple Ford books as option for this truck. H code in vin. Research this a bit and some say black was started to be used in 94. Also the two icm ‘s do deal with dwell slightly different. So I know this thread been bounced around a few times but what is the answer. Many lean to black from 94 and mine is 96.But one thing for sure many agree aftermarket modules suck.
Ignition Control Module harness is open or shorted
Ignition Control Module circuit poor electrical connection
P1359 Meaning
The Engine Control Module (ECM) monitors the Crankshaft Position / Top Dead Center Sensor. The Engine Control Module sets the Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) when Crankshaft Position (CKP) / Top Dead Center (TDC) Sensor Circuit Malfunction is detected.
If you will look up a 95 Mustang GT 5.0L, you will get the correct DY-1077, which is the CCD(computer control dwell) Ford went to. If money is tight for now still pick from the 95 Mustang GT, and you will still get the correct one, the DY-1075(push to start) will run our trucks, but will be sluggish and throw codes. Hell . Well I order the black icm dy1077 from rock auto. Part in the box doesn’t have motorcraft anywhere on the part but came in a motorcraft box. The long part number on the box is
5u2z-12a297-d . Long number on part is 5u2j-12a297-db and is black but does not say motorcraft on it. Could it be that it’s made by someone else and packaged under Ford to their specs hence the slight variation in numbers. Thanks . Ps . Haven’t installed it yet. Just trying to confirm.
I bought a replacement one for my truck (1988) from the Ford dealer. I just checked it and it does not have anything but part numbers on it.
FYI it is grey.

Thanks. Yours for the year should be grey. But yea you kinda get that wth feeling when you don’t see Ford or motorcraft on the part. Oh well. Guess I’ll just put it in.
I recently ordered a new Motorcraft IAC from Rockauto and there are NO numbers or Motorcraft identification on it anywhere. Not sure what to think about it but it checked out ok. I am still not sold on it yet and probably never will be unless Motorcraft says that is the way they do it now.

Yea it sucks . You wonder if someone returned a non oem in the motorcraft box and they put it back on the shelf. Messed up for what you pay for oem. I included some pictures.
Sometimes you have to pay full price to ensure you get the correct part. I always price shop local versus 'net vendors. If I need it now or I want the confirmed Ford/Motorcraft version I buy local, which several times I purchased from the local Ford dealer. Usually get free next day shipping to boot. I usually walk in with the part number to make it easier on the parts folks.
I'm going to try to talk to somebody at Motorcraft tomorrow and see if I can get any help with our situation. Since most on here try and use Motorcraft unless cost prohibitive, obviously we support the brand and are willing to pay more in most cases. I'll see if I can get us some answers. Sandy
